Prayer Concerns for the week of July 2, 2012

 Canada
·         Give God grateful thanks that two siblings, 11-year-old Dominic and 9-year-old Abby, were recently rescued in Mexico after being abducted by their father almost four years ago. Thanks be to God they were reunited with their mother in Winnipeg, Manitoba last month. http://tinyurl.com/dxqze34
·         Pray for this brother and sister as they adjust to life in their former community after having been confined to a house in Mexico without schooling, playmates, or contact with the outside world. Pray for emotional and spiritual healing in their lives. Give thanks for their resilience and strength.
·         Pray for their mother who is overjoyed at their return and intent on keeping them safe through the readjustment phase.
·         And pray for their father and another man who were arrested for abducting Dominic and Abby during a court-ordered visitation. Police found drugs, weapons, and child pornography inside the house in Mexico in which the children were held.

Nigeria
·         Please pray for Christians and Muslims during a season of sectarian violence in Nigeria. Pray for children and people who fear for their lives because of their religious affiliation.  http://tinyurl.com/clj83a5
·         Pray for the congregations of five churches in northern Nigeria that were attacked during Sunday worship services last month. Pray for the families of those killed when members of the Islamist group, Boko Haram, allegedly attacked these churches. Four of the churches were hit by suicide car bombs killing 19 and injuring dozens more. A fifth church was attacked by militants who sprayed the congregation with bullets, killing one person.
·         Pray for the families of Muslims who were allegedly killed by Christian youth in retaliation for the church attacks.
·         Pray for all of those—Christian and Muslim, young and old—who have been injured in or affected by this violence.
·         Please pray the violence won’t escalate into a religious war between Muslims and Christians.
·         Pray that the desire for peace and reconciliation will flood the hearts of those who are intent on destruction.
·         Pray God will give the peacemakers of Nigeria the courage to continue to work for peace in their country.

Syria
·         Please continue to keep in prayer the children and people of Syria who have been affected by violence during a 15-month-long uprising against President Bashar al-Assad. http://tinyurl.com/7p4dqob
·         Pray for civilians who have been injured in attacks on their towns or villages. Pray for children whose relatives have been massacred, allegedly by Syrian government forces or their paramilitary militias. Pray for young people who have been arrested and tortured, even when they haven’t been involved with rebel groups.
·         Pray for children and families whose homes have been destroyed in the violence. Please pray they will find safe shelter away from the violence. Please pray God will provide the resources these internally displaced children and people need to survive.
·         Continue to pray for peace in Syria. Pray that civil war won’t break out between Assad’s forces and rebel fighters.

Faces of Children
·         Please keep Faces of Children intercessor Katie and her husband Mitch held close in prayer as they grieve the death of their 2 ½-year-old daughter Ruby Joy. Pray God will bring healing and peace to these hurting young parents. Pray that a compassionate community of support will surround them during this season of loss and sadness.
·         Keep in prayer Gregory*, a Faces of Children prayer partner, as he travels to Kenya, South Sudan, and Somalia on a mission trip to train church leaders and pastors.
·         Please continue to pray that more churches and individuals will join with the ministry of Faces of Children in spreading awareness about children in crisis and inviting more people to pray for children at risk.
