Prayer Concerns for the week of June 11, 2012

Sudan, South Sudan
·         Keep in prayer the children of Sudan and South Sudan who have been affected by fighting between the Sudanese Army and rebels in Sudan’s border states. South Sudan gained independence from the north in July 2011. Since then, tensions and conflict along the border between the two countries has escalated.
·         Pray for the 35,000 Sudanese refugees who have crossed into South Sudan to escape the fighting. Pray for sufficient humanitarian aid for all of these children and families plus the 70,000 refugees already living in crowded camps in South Sudan. Drinking water and other necessary supplies are running low because of the massive flood of refugees. http://tinyurl.com/7qegmur
·         Please pray that aid organizations will be allowed access to those in need in Sudan’s Blue Nile and South Kordofan states. Pray for children and families who are hiding from the fighting in the bush.
·         Pray for the estimated 4.7 million people in South Sudan who are facing food shortages this year. With the influx of refugees from Sudan, the return of hundreds of thousands of South Sudanese, an economy in crisis and the approach of the rainy season, the food situation in South Sudan is precarious. Give thanks to God for the foresight of aid agencies that have been pre-positioning food supplies in strategic locations around South Sudan.   http://tinyurl.com/74od7yu

·         Give God thanks that 10-year-old Elijah was wearing a helmet and wasn’t seriously injured when the motorcycle on which he and his father were riding collided with a semi truck. Pray for Elijah’s father who was seriously hurt in the accident after attempting to pass a semi truck on the right as it made a right turn. Pray for the driver of the truck and all those who responded to the accident. Please pray for all youth, children, and adults who will be riding motorcycles this summer. Pray they will consider motorcycle safety a priority. http://tinyurl.com/6um59cq
·         Thanks be to God for 17-year-old Thomas’* hard work this past semester in earning his General Education Development (GED) certificate. Pray he will continue to make good decisions that will help him move beyond the poor ones he has made in the past. Last year, Thomas was expelled from school for possessing a firearm and accidentally shooting another student. Pray God will encourage Thomas’ mother and father as they parent their son through this time of transition. Thomas will turn 18 next month.

·         Please continue to pray for the students, faculty, and staff of the Presbyterian Pan American School (PPAS), a college preparatory school in Kingsville, Texas, as they move into summer break.
o   Pray for those students who have returned to their homes in areas of Mexico that are considered quite dangerous because of drug cartel violence.
o   Pray for South Korean and Rwandan students who aren’t able to return to their home countries because of visa issues or the high cost of travel. Pray they will be content in their temporary placements this summer and that God will comfort them if they become homesick.
o   Please pray the faculty and staff of PPAS will be able to rest some this summer following a busy, but good, school year. Pray especially for the dorm parents who work 24 hours a day, seven days a week during the school year, including holidays.
·         Thanks be to God for the graduating class of PPAS, the largest one in the school’s 100 year history. Pray for these 45 students as they continue their education in colleges and universities throughout the U.S.

Faces of Children
·         Please pray for 13-year-old Brady, the nephew of a Faces of Children prayer partner, who recently had a second open heart surgery to treat a congenital heart defect with which he was born. Give God thanks that the surgeons were able to successfully replace the pulmonary valve in his heart. Pray Brady will make a complete recovery from this surgery, his eighth one in 13 years. Pray for Brady’s parents and sister as they help care for him.
·         Please lift Carol, a Faces of Children intercessor, in prayer as she recovers from four weeks of poison ivy and now a strep throat infection. Pray that God will bring complete healing to her body. Give thanks to God for the medical care and medications available to treat this dedicated prayer partner.
