Please keep in
prayer an estimated 15 to 18 million children, youth, and adults in the Sahel
region in Africa who are facing food shortages because of a number of extreme
circumstances. Pray for those who are suffering terribly in this semi-arid
region south of the Sahara desert that includes regions of Senegal, Mali,
Mauritania, Algeria, Niger, Chad, Sudan, and Eritrea. A combination of drought,
failed crops, insect infestations, high food prices, armed conflicts and
displacement because of those conflicts have caused severe food insecurity in the
Sahel. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sahel
·
Pray for the
children and people of northeast Senegal as they suffer from a drought that has
devastated crops, pastures, and livestock. Pray for the estimated 810,000
people, most in rural areas, who are facing hunger in this region. Pray for
families that are dependent upon livestock for their livelihood and have
watched their herds shrink as the animals die from lack of food and water. http://tinyurl.com/cx79n7s
·
Pray for the
estimated 6.4 million people in Niger who are food insecure. Give thanks to God
for the Nigerien government initiative (modeled after Brazil’s hunger
eradication program) that aims to eliminate hunger in Niger. Pray the 3 N initiative
(Nigeriens nourissent Nigeriens/Nigeriens feed Nigeriens) will raise
agricultural production in the country and reduce dependency on international
food aid. http://tinyurl.com/7epbclk

Keep close in
prayer the youth and sponsors from several Texas churches as they travel to and
