Prayer Concerns for the week of June 4, 2012

Mexico, United States
·         Please continue to pray for the children and youth of Mexico who are exposed to increasingly barbaric acts of violence by warring drug cartels. Last month, the bodies of nine victims were hung from a bridge in the border town of Nuevo Laredo and the severed heads of 14 others were left in coolers outside city hall. Between the U.S. border and Monterrey, the torsos of 49 people were found dumped along a highway. The mutilated bodies of 18 victims were found in abandoned vehicles near Guadalajara. Pray for the families of these men and women who were brutally killed by opposing drug cartels fighting one another. Pray the loved ones of these victims will experience God’s comforting peace in this time of sadness, uncertainty, and terror.  http://tinyurl.com/84spp2q
·         Pray for Mexican children who are unable to receive an education because their schools are closed due to drug cartel threats of violence against and extortion of school teachers. Pray for parents who are unable to work because of the violence.
·         Please pray for children and families who live in fear of being kidnapped by drug gangsters intent on extorting money from them.
·         Pray for those who derive pleasure from violence and for those who are consumed and driven by greed. Pray that God’s justice will rain down on all those guilty of murder. Pray for peace and justice in Mexico.
·         Pray for the healing of those addicted to drugs—for an end to the fuel that propels the huge machinery of drug trafficking. Mexico’s drug cartels are the main foreign suppliers of marijuana and methamphetamine to the United States. The chief transit route for the U.S.’s cocaine and heroin is through Mexico.

Peru
·         Keep close in prayer the 20 youth and sponsors from First Presbyterian Church, Midland, Texas as they serve orphans and children in several cities in Peru. Pray this mission team will reflect the love and compassion of Jesus Christ in all their interactions with the children and people they meet during this trip. Pray for the children with whom this team will work. Pray that God will provide for the daily needs of these children and protect them from those who would take advantage of their vulnerability.

Syria, Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan
·         Please pray for the children and people of Syria’s Houla region following the May 25 massacre of 108 civilians, nearly half of them children. Pray for the relatives of the 49 children and 34 women who were executed, allegedly by Syrian government forces. Pray for the healing of those injured in the massacre. http://tinyurl.com/7wf6hna
·         Pray for the 500,000 Syrians who have been displaced from their homes and communities since an uprising against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad began in March 2011. Please pray for the 1.4 million people living in conflict areas in Syria who lack access to food and medical care. They Syrian government has made it illegal to possess medicines and basic medical supplies. Pray that humanitarian aid agencies will be allowed in the country.
·         Keep in prayer the estimated 60,000 children and people who have sought refuge across Syria’s borders in Turkey, Lebanon, and Jordan. Pray for the 100,000 Iraqi and 496,000 Palestinian refugees who are still in Syria.
·         Please pray for the families and friends of the estimated 10,000 people killed by pro-Assad loyalists in the crackdown against anti-government rebels.
·         Pray the fighting between rebels and government forces won’t descend into sectarian or civil war. Pray the April 2012 truce will be honored by both sides. Pray for freedom and peace throughout Syria. http://tinyurl.com/7hlb6hv   http://tinyurl.com/728z8ob   http://tinyurl.com/6s6blwe

United States
·         Continue to keep in prayer 1-year-old Annabel, the niece of a Faces of Children intercessor, as she receives treatment for neuroblastoma at a children’s hospital. Pray the infection in her finger will heal so she may leave isolation and go home soon. Pray that Annabel’s parents will be encouraged by the prayers and support of their family and friends as they take care of their baby’s daily needs.
·         Please keep in prayer a 12-year-old girl who was forced to run up and down the street in a diaper (and tank top) because her grades weren’t good enough. Her head had also been shaved by her mother and the mother’s boyfriend. Pray this young girl will heal from the emotional abuse inflicted on her so heartlessly. Please pray for a healthy and loving foster care environment now that the girl and her three younger siblings have been removed from their home. Pray for the mother and boyfriend who were arrested and sent to jail. http://tinyurl.com/buyvwhs
