Prayer Concerns for the week of July 9, 2012

Burma, Bangladesh
·         Pray for the estimated 800,000 children and families who are members of the Rohingya, an ethnic group that lives in abject poverty near Burma’s western border with Bangladesh. Pray for the estimated 300,000 Rohingya refugees who live in Bangladesh. Pray for this vulnerable people group that is denied citizenship in both Burma and Bangladesh. http://tinyurl.com/ca4n4nz
·         Pray for those in northwestern Burma who have been injured in fighting between the Muslim Rohingya and the ethnic Buddhist Rakhine majority. Violence flared last month after a Rakhine Buddhist girl was raped and murdered allegedly by Muslim Rohingyas. Pray for the Muslim Rohingya who were attacked in retaliation for the murder of this girl. http://tinyurl.com/6t7c3g5
·         Pray for Rohingya and Rakhine children and families whose homes were burned down in this violence. Pray for those who have fled the fighting and are now in need of food, clean water, and shelter against heavy rains.
·         Keep in prayer the Muslim Rohingya refugees who have fled by boat and on foot to neighboring Bangladesh, but have been turned away by Bangladesh coast guard and border security. Pray for the children, women, and injured who are adrift in boats off the Bangladesh coast and who aren’t allowed to seek refuge there. http://tinyurl.com/79px6gf   http://tinyurl.com/6wl9hur

Uganda, United States
·         Thanks be to God for the successful church planting and mission trip to Uganda for the mission team from First Presbyterian Church, Midland, Texas. Give God thanks for establishing this new church and congregation in Kakoro village and for calling Pastor Mike to this ministry. Pray for this pastor and the leaders of Kakoro Presbyterian Church as they minister to the children, youth, women, and men of the community. Pray for effective discipleship support for those in the community who made a commitment to follow Jesus Christ.
·         Give thanks for the success of the Women’s Conference the team led for more than 300 women from 60 different churches. Pray the information presented in workshops on nutrition, training youth in the church, women’s health and family planning, and creating Bible lessons will be utilized in the congregations and communities to which the participants belong.
·         Give God thanks for the new artesian water wells drilled in this region and for the dramatic decline in childhood diseases because of access to clean water! Thanks be to God for those who have given generously to provide clean water for the children and people of Kakoro and the surrounding area.
·         Pray for God’s healing touch to be upon those who weren’t able to receive treatment at the two day medical clinic because there were too many people in attendance. Give thanks to God for the local doctors and nurses who volunteered their time during these two days to treat the worst cases and for the mission team members who helped.
·         Please pray for the children at all of the schools the mission team visited during their trip. Thanks be to God for the opportunity to share Jesus Christ’s message of love and grace to so many students in the area.
·         Pray for the male and female prisoners with whom members of the mission team visited during their trips to prisons in the area. Pray for the babies and small children incarcerated with their mothers in some of these prisons. Give thanks to God for the opportunity to share Christ’s message of hope with these prisoners and for the opportunity to witness the deep faith of many other prisoners and worship with them.
·         Please hold close in prayer Esther and her two small children and 6-month-old baby as she struggles to take care of them all. Pray for a community of support to surround this young mother whose husband abandoned her when she was pregnant with their youngest child. Pray that God will bring hope and peace to Esther and that God will provide the resources she needs to care for her family.

Faces of Children
·         Please keep in prayer 2-month-old Fiona Lane, the great-granddaughter of a Faces of Children prayer partner, as she will have heart surgery in the very near future. Pray for her parents, Doug and Danielle, as they care for and make medical decisions about Fiona Lane during this challenging season.
·         Give thanks to God for the life of Charlotte Miles, a Faces of Children intercessor who died late last month. Pray for Charlotte’s family and friends as they mourn this faithful servant of Jesus Christ.
·         Please keep in prayer the family of former Faces of Children prayer partner Shirley Johnston who died last week. Pray God will bring comfort and peace to her family and friends as they remember and celebrate her life.
