Prayer Concerns for the week of May 28, 2012

Kenya
·         Please keep the disabled children receiving treatment at the CURE International Hospital in Kenya held close in prayer. Pray especially for these boys, 8-year-old Jessee, 11-year-old John, and 14-year-olds Kyalo, Moses, and Brian. http://cure.org/hospitals/kenya/

Nepal, China, India
·         Please pray for young girls from Nepal who are being trafficked into prostitution at an alarming rate, partly because they don’t need passports to enter India or China.
·         Give thanks to God for the work of the staff at Peace Rehabilitation Centre (PRC) as they minister to girls who have been trafficked into prostitution or are at risk of being trafficked. Praise God for the ministry programs that help the girls learn to read and write, as well as teach them trades to earn a living.
·         Thanks be to God for PRC’s cooperative animal husbandry program that helps girls in villages earn a living for their families. The program has been very successful and has helped the girls, their families, and villages.

Pakistan
·         Pray for the children of northwest Pakistan who are unable to receive an education because so many schools in the seven tribal areas there have been destroyed by militant bombs. Hundreds of schools have been damaged or destroyed by Islamic extremists who want to remove any form of secular education provided by the government.
·         Pray for those who have such hatred in their hearts that they carry out this murderous ideology without remorse.
·         Pray God will bring comfort to children and youth who were at their schools when those were attacked. Pray for children who have been traumatized by this violence.
·         Pray for the safety of girls whose schools were destroyed and who now meet for classes under tents or trees.
·         Please pray for healing and peace in these tribal areas. Pray that all children will be able to attend school without fear.  http://tinyurl.com/ctrgys5

United States
·         Please continue to keep 2-year-old Lily Kate held close in prayer as she is treated for Kawasaki disease and complications from this rare illness at Children’s Hospital in Philadelphia. Give God thanks that Lily Kate’s heart has returned to normal. Pray she won’t have an aneurism or heart attack during this critical time period and that she’ll be able to go home soon. Pray God will sustain and encourage Lily Kate’s parents as they make decisions about her care. Please keep in prayer the team of specialists treating Lily Kate and pray God will direct them to the best treatment options for this rare disease.
·         Pray God will bring healing to 1-week-old Grant who was born with a congenital heart defect—he doesn’t have any normal pulmonary arteries. Pray for Grant’s young parents as they make decisions about his care and tend to this vulnerable newborn. Please also remember in prayer the medical personnel who are caring for Grant.
·         Pray for children who struggle with school. Pray for children whose parents are unprepared for or uninvolved in their school lives. Pray for school children whose parents neglect or ignore them. Please pray each community with issues like these can raise up mentors for vulnerable children.
·         Give thanks to God that a 15-year-old girl from Illinois is safe from a predator who allegedly tried to lure her to North Dakota for sex using a social media page. Pray for this 27-year-old man who is in jail facing charges in this case. http://www.inforum.com/event/article/id/360924/
·         Thanks be to God that 6-year-old Harper’s doctors believe they have found the cause of his severe stomach pain. Pray the medications and diet modifications will bring healing to this little boy.
·         Give thanks to God for 14-year-old Julia’s successful operation to correct the severe curvature of her spine. Please continue to keep her in prayer as she recovers from this major surgery.

Faces of Children
Thanks be to God for Dr. Jim Matthews’ 15 years of dedicated service to Presbyterian Pan American School in Kingsville, Texas as president of this college preparatory school. Please keep this Faces of Children prayer partner and his wife Peggy in prayer as they make the transition to retirement. Pray for the incoming president Dr. Doug Dagliesh and his wife Sonya as they move to South Texas and begin their ministry.
