Prayer Concerns for the week of January 28, 2013

Indonesia
·         Pray for children and families in Indonesia who have been affected by severe flooding from heavy monsoon rains. Pray for those on the islands of Java and southern Sumatra who have been hit by torrential rain with more expected in coming days. Pray for the estimated 20,000 people who were forced from their homes in the capital city of Jakarta because of these unusually intense monsoon rains.  http://tinyurl.com/azpqka6

Sudan
·         Please continue to pray for children and families in Sudan’s South Kordofan and Blue Nile states as they struggle to find ways to survive in a region torn by violent conflict for more than a year. Fighting between ethnic rebels and the Sudanese army started in this region just before South Sudan seceded from the north in July 2011.
·         Pray for the hundreds of thousands of people who have fled their homes in these states because of the violence. Pray for those who lack access to food, water, medical care, and proper shelter.
·         Pray for children and families who are surviving on roots and leaves because the Sudanese government won’t allow humanitarian groups into this area. Pray for a change of heart within the government in order that aid groups may enter, assess the situation, and provide assistance.  http://tinyurl.com/ahld52f
·         Please pray that a peace agreement will be reached and honored between the rebels and the Sudanese government.

United States
·         Pray for God’s healing touch to be upon 3-year-old Lily Grace who is hospitalized in critical condition with a large blood clot in her heart. Pray the pain and discomfort she is experiencing will diminish. Lily was abandoned at birth in China and suffers from such a rare heart condition that doctors there considered her case to be terminal. Pray for this precious little girl who has already been through four heart surgeries in her short life. Give thanks to God for the family who desperately wanted Lily, adopted her, and brought her to live in the U.S where she has excellent medical care. Thanks be to God for the joy Lily has brought into their lives. Pray for Lily’s parents and her sisters as they care for this very sick little girl.  http://www.rancourtfamily.blogspot.com/
·         Please keep 20-year-old Becky held close in prayer as she struggles with alcoholism, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and severe anxiety. Pray Becky’s parents will provide guidance for their troubled daughter.
·         Pray for 16-year-old Aaron* and his brother as they watch over their mother who had a massive heart attack last week and who is in intensive care in a coma. Aaron’s father died recently of a heart attack. Pray for a community of support to surround these young men during this difficult time. Please pray for their mother who will have life support removed soon.
·         Keep 2-month-old Benjamin close in prayer as he recovers from heart surgery. Give thanks to God that the surgery went well for this little one and pray he makes a complete recovery. Pray for Benjamin’s family, who are Burmese refugees, as they care for their son.
Please pray God will protect 6-year-old Cassie* who regularly witnesses her mother being physically and verbally abused by a live-in boyfriend. Thanks be to God for Cassie’s kindergarten teacher who recognized what was happening and contacted Child Protective Services (CPS). Pray CPS investigators will keep a close eye on the situation and take action when it is necessary.
·         Give God thanks for the recent Challenge Day events at both high schools in Midland, Texas. Pray for the students who participated in this week-long event. Pray that healing and reconciliation will continue among the students who were involved in this experiential program that demonstrates the possibility of love and connection through the celebration of diversity, truth, and full expression. Pray for the adult volunteers and leaders who were also involved. Thanks be to God for the vision of this organization that seeks a world where every child will feel safe, loved, and celebrated.  http://www.challengeday.org/

Faces of Children
Give thanks to God for the opportunity to share the ministry of Faces of Children with the Presbyterian Women of Savannah Presbytery the last weekend of January 2013. Pray for the women who attended this gathering and heard the message about prayer for children. Please pray they will take this message back to their communities and share it.
