Prayer Concerns for the week of January 14, 2013

Australia
·         Pray for the children and people of Australia who have been affected by hundreds of wildfires—bushfires are burning in five of Australia’s six states—and a sweltering heat wave.
·         Pray for those who have been forced from their homes by the more than 137 fires in New South Wales, Australia’s most populated state. Pray for those who have lost loved ones, homes, and businesses to the fires raging on the island state of Tasmania.
·         Please pray for firefighters and emergency personnel battling these bushfires in such extreme temperatures. A record heat wave in Western Australia lasted eight days, then moved east across the country. Temperatures were higher than 113*F (45*C) in parts of central Australia with 129*F (54*C) expected this week. Pray for a respite from this heat and relief for the fire crews.  http://tinyurl.com/af5t8e2

Honduras
·         Please keep in prayer children receiving treatment at the CURE International Hospital in Honduras. Pray God will meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of an 8-year-old little girl named Dakaren. www.helpcurenow.org.

Jordan
·         Pray for the more than 360,000 Syrian children and families who have been displaced by the war in their home country. Please pray for those living in crowded refugee camps that have limited resources for so many people.
·         Pray for children who are at risk of abuse because they are very vulnerable living in these displacement camps. Pray for girls and young women who are targeted for arranged marriages by unscrupulous matchmakers or Arab men looking for temporary “marriages.” Please pray for girls and young women who have been given to much older men through arranged marriages and now find themselves sexually abused or prostituted. http://tinyurl.com/clrla9p

United States
·         Please continue to keep in prayer 21-month-old Emma, who was recently at the center of a custody fight between both sets of her grandparents following the murder-suicide of her parents. In March 2011, Emma’s 17-year-old father committed suicide after shooting and killing her 16-year-old mother. http://tinyurl.com/anwtjw2
o   Pray Emma’s paternal grandparents, who were awarded sole legal and physical custody of her, will seek God’s guidance in raising this orphaned child. Pray for God’s wisdom and discernment when it comes time to tell Emma about her parents.
o   Continue to pray for both families as they mourn their children. Pray for a community of support to surround these hurting families.
·         Keep 10-year-old Jordan close in prayer as he awaits a double lung transplant. Jordan, who has cystic fibrosis and whose lungs function at only 20 percent, has been on the transplant list through Texas Children’s Hospital for several months. Pray also for Jordan’s family who moved with him from North Dakota to Houston to wait for donor lungs to become available. Give thanks to God for the support Jordan and his family have received from their community at home and also in Texas. http://tinyurl.com/b7pg2sq
·         Please pray for all children who are critically ill or who are in medical limbo and awaiting treatment. Pray for their parents or caregivers as they make decisions about their child’s treatment options. Pray for children whose families cannot afford to seek treatment or go to extraordinary lengths to secure it.
·         Give thanks to God for the Prince George’s County Art in Public Places Program and the way in which art is made available to children in poor neighborhoods. Thanks be to God for the joy a recent mural project brought to children like 11-year-old twins Kayanna and Kyra who attend a school that shares an art teacher with four other schools in the county. And give God thanks for the way in which this mural project helped get parents involved in their children’s school life. http://tinyurl.com/ak8l288
