Prayer Concerns for the week of February 4, 2013

North Korea
·         Pray for the estimated 200,000 people held in North Korea’s network of political prison camps. Pray for children and families held in these camps for generations. Pray for child prisoners who are tortured, starved, raped, abused, enslaved, and denied medical care and adequate clothing in these shadowy labor camps.
·         Pray for those whose family members have been put to death in the camps. Pray for children who are forced to witness executions of family members and other prisoners. http://tinyurl.com/a2nonan
·         Please pray for a change of heart within North Korea’s leadership…pray they will come to cherish all of their citizens, not just a fraction of them. Pray for an end to these horrific labor camps whose conditions have been compared to Nazi concentration camps or Soviet gulags.

Turkey, Syria
·         Pray for the hundreds of thousands of Syrian children who have found refuge in Turkey, and especially for those who have been deeply traumatized by the things they experienced in Syria. Pray for children who witnessed airplanes dropping bombs on nearby homes and schools, soldiers firing at civilians, neighborhood houses on fire, tanks rolling down the streets of their communities. http://tinyurl.com/a752qdk
·         Give thanks to God for schools that have been set up for Syrian refugee children and provide play rooms and art programs to help them express their fears. Pray for the Syrian teachers and administrators who staff these makeshift schools and who often rely on volunteers to help traumatized children.
·         Pray for children who still remain in Syria and face bombardment and food shortages on a daily basis. Pray for those who are trying to survive in bitter cold weather without fuel for heating. And pray for children who aren’t able to go to school because of the fighting.
·         Please keep in prayer children with post-traumatic stress disorder because of the violence they’ve experienced. Pray for their healing and restoration and give thanks for the resiliency of children.
·         Pray for peace in Syria…that the fighting and violence will end.

United States
·         Continue to lift 14-year-old Taylor* before God in prayer for healing and peace. Taylor suffers from severe emotional issues and was recently taken to the emergency room after admitting she wanted to commit suicide. Please pray God will put healing hands on this troubled young woman who is deeply angry and lashes out at her parents and siblings regularly.  *Name changed for confidentiality and/or protection.
·         Give God thanks Taylor is receiving psychological care and regular talk therapy. Pray she will continue to respond to her newest medication. Pray for her relationships at home and at school.
·         Please continue to pray for Taylor’s parents as they navigate this difficult situation and deal with the challenges of a teenager in the midst of a very serious mental health crisis. Pray for a community of support around these parents who are so concerned about their daughter. Continue to pray God will provide a clear direction for them in all the decisions they make regarding Taylor’s care.
·         Please pray God will protect the vulnerable hearts of Taylor’s sister and brother during this difficult season in their family. Please pray for healing within these fragile relationships.

Faces of Children
·         Give thanks and praise to God for answering prayers about 23-year-old Meaghan, the daughter of a Faces of Children prayer partner, who recently had surgery for thyroid cancer. Thanks be to God for the wonderful report from Meaghan’s endocrinologist at her last follow-up appointment…there is no sign of cancer at all! Give God praise that Meaghan’s voice is returning and is almost normal again. And give thanks to God for the MD Anderson Cancer Center and the compassionate staff that helped treat Meaghan. Grateful thanks to God for all those who prayed for this beloved daughter.
·         Please continue to keep 10-year-old Clay, the nephew of a Faces of Children intercessor, close in prayer. Clay has a rare genetic disorder called Hunter syndrome and has been experiencing frequent grand mal seizures. Give thanks to God that Clay’s physicians seem to have found the right medication to control those seizures.
·         Thanks be to God for the opportunity to share the ministry of Faces of Children at the Annual Gathering of Presbyterian Women of Savannah Presbytery in Savannah, Georgia on January 26, 2013. Give God praise for all the women who came to this gathering and the Faces of Children workshop afterwards and for their commitment to pray for children. Give thanks to God for the new prayer partners who joined with Faces of Children.
