Prayer Concerns for the week of December 24, 2012

Pakistan
·         Thanks be to God for answering prayers about Rimshah Masih, an 11-year-old little girl with Down’s syndrome who was accused of blasphemy. Praise God the Islamabad High Court withdrew the blasphemy case against her. Rimshah, whose family is Christian, was accused of burning pages from the Koran by neighbors in her predominately Muslim neighborhood. http://tinyurl.com/b8cu5de
·         Please continue in prayer for Rimshah and her family as extremists have threatened this little girl and her family with harm if the government fails to convict her. Pray they will be safe from persecution or assassination attempts. Pray for those who stood up for Rimshah as they are also in danger.

United States
·         Please keep close in prayer those affected by a massacre in a Newtown, Connecticut elementary school on Friday, December 14, 2012. Twenty children and six adults were killed when a 20-year-old gunman forced his way into Sandy Hook Elementary School that morning and opened fire with a military-style assault rifle. http://tinyurl.com/cetj9vh    http://tinyurl.com/bm4qwme
·         Thanks be to God for the lives of these little ones and the joy they brought to those around them. And give God thanks for the lives of the Sandy Hook teachers and administrators who died protecting these students.

·         Pray God will bring comfort and peace to the parents, siblings, grandparents, relatives, friends, and classmates of the 20 children killed in the shooting rampage. Pray for God’s comforting presence for the spouses, children, parents, friends, and co-workers of the teachers and administrators killed that morning.
·         Please pray for all of the children at Sandy Hook Elementary School as they process what happened to them that Friday morning. Pray for those who are traumatized by what they witnessed or heard during the attack. Pray for their parents and guardians as they help their children navigate this season of shock, grief, and fear.
·         Pray for the elementary school personnel—the teachers, administrators, and other staff—who survived this horrific attack. Pray they will feel God’s presence and comfort as they prepare to return to school in a different facility and lead their students through this difficult experience. Give thanks to God for all of those teachers and school personnel who took steps to protect the children in their care. http://tinyurl.com/d2vcteu
·         Please keep the Newtown community’s first responders close in prayer. Pray for law enforcement personnel who entered the school during the attack. Pray for the peace officers and emergency medical personnel who witnessed the gruesome aftermath. Pray for all those who saw the carnage, who saw the shattered bodies of all these children and women, most of whom had been shot multiple times with a high powered assault rifle designed to inflict severe internal damage.
·         Pray for Newtown’s teachers and school staff as they return to classrooms and jobs in the wake of this tragedy. http://tinyurl.com/d2oy3wo  Please pray for all school personnel throughout the country as they deal with the consequences of this terrible event. Pray for children who are fearful about going to school and for their parents who are afraid to send them off to school each day.
·         Please keep in prayer the family of the 20-year-old young man who allegedly committed this massacre and the murder of his mother earlier that morning. He committed suicide at the elementary school when law enforcement personnel arrived on the scene. Pray for this young man’s brother and father as they face this horrific situation and grieve the deaths of their loved ones, as well as the deaths of the 26 others.

Faces of Children
·         Please pray for God’s comforting presence for Faces of Children intercessor Vickie Hampton and her husband Jim following the death of Jim’s mother just before Thanksgiving.
