Prayer Concerns for the week of December 17, 2012

I prepared this list last week before the Connecticut elementary school shootings and am currently working on next week’s list that will include more detailed prayers about the situation. Thank you for lifting in prayer all of those affected by the massacre of so many children and women.  CCL

Ethiopia
·         Please keep in prayer children receiving treatment at the CURE International Hospital in Ethiopia. Pray God will meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of a 15-year-old young man named Abebe. www.helpcurenow.org

Philippines
·         Pray for children and people living on the Filipino island of Mindano in areas hit hardest by typhoon Bopha when it made landfall on December 4, 2012. About 90 percent of three coastal towns in Davao Oriental province were wiped out and a whole town in Compostela Valley province was buried under mud. http://tinyurl.com/b4fww6p
·         Pray for the 300,000 people who have been left homeless in these two coastal provinces. Pray for those whose villages were completely wiped out by landslides and floods caused by the typhoon.
·         Pray for the 5.4 million people affected by this storm, and especially those who are in great need of clean water, food, shelter, and medical care. Pray for children, youth, and adults who were injured by the destructive force of this typhoon. Please pray they will be able to access good medical care soon.
·         Pray for the loved ones and friends of the 647 people killed when this powerful typhoon hit. Entire families were washed away in some villages.
·         Pray for children who have been separated from their parents or families. Please pray God will provide them shelter and protection. Pray they will be reunited with their guardians.
·         Please keep in prayer those who are searching for loved ones who are still missing. Hundreds of people are still unaccounted for a week after typhoon Bopha hit.
·         Pray for those who have lost not only homes, but livelihoods…crop damage is estimated to be $210 million. http://tinyurl.com/d98etpr   http://tinyurl.com/bo3qp4w

United States
·         Please keep Michael* close in prayer as he receives treatment in a mental health facility. Pray God’s healing touch will be upon this teenage boy who is going through a very difficult time. Pray for his family and all who love and care for Michael. Pray for Michael’s physicians and the staff at the facility as they work with him toward healing and wholeness.             *Name changed for confidentiality and/or protection.

United States—North Dakota
·         Pray for the families of 16-year-old Ian Alves, 16-year-old Tessa Miller, and 18-year-old Levi Schulz who are mourning these three West Fargo High School students who died in unrelated situations over a two-day period. http://tinyurl.com/a72gbd2
·         Give God thanks for the life of Ian, who died after an 18-month battle with two aggressive forms of cancer. Please continue to pray for Ian’s mother and brother as they experience another difficult loss in their family. Ian’s father died of brain cancer about five years ago.
o   Thanks be to God for the good memories Ian’s family made while on a trip to Disney World with him several months before his death.
o   Pray for the members of Ian’s community who have provided such compassionate support for this young man and his family.
·         Please pray for Tessa’s family and friends as they try to make sense of this young woman’s death. Give thanks to God Tessa’s family chose to donate her organs so others might be given another opportunity at life.
·         Keep Levi’s family and friends close in prayer as they also deal with his sudden death. Levi was struck and killed by a pickup as he crossed the street to go back to his car.
·         Please pray for West Fargo High School’s students, teachers, counselors, and staff who are reeling from these multiple losses in their school community. Pray for Ian, Tessa, and Levi’s friends and classmates who are feeling overwhelmed and shocked by the deaths of these three in such a short period of time. Please pray God will bring comfort to everyone affected by the teens’ deaths.
·         Pray for first responders and other emergency personnel who witness so many disturbing, horrific sights in their jobs. Pray God will bring peace to all those who deal with bodies broken in traffic accidents, violent attacks, suicide attempts, addictive behaviors, or other damaging events.
