Prayer Concerns for the week of October 8, 2012

Brazil (ESTHERS Children – www.estherschildren.org)
·         Give thanks to God for the new ESTHERS Children project, the Quiet Strength Community Center, in a small village on the outskirts of Recife. Pray for the 50 girls who come to the center each day and thank God they have the opportunity to receive tutoring in math, reading, and writing; take classes in music, dance, painting, cooking and swimming; and receive instruction about nutrition and personal hygiene.  Pray for the safety of these girls, many of whom come from families where there is drug, alcohol, physical, or sexual abuse, or prostitution
o   Pray for 10-year-old Anna* who left the Quiet Strength project and is out on the streets, spending time in bars, and being sexually exploited. Pray God will set Anna free from the destructive things of her past and return her to the project. Pray for her safety and healing.
o   Please pray for 14-year-old Heather* who is making very poor choices. Heather isn’t going to school or church any longer and has dropped out of the Quiet Strength project. Pray God will protect Heather as the home in which she lives is a place of darkness where drugs, alcohol, sex, abuse, violence, and hunger thrive. Pray for her safety now that she is working in a bar where many young girls are prostituted.
·         Please pray for the young girls ESTHERS Children serves who are trapped in lives of prostitution and/or drug trafficking. Pray God will provide safe places they can go to escape and begin the work of healing.
o   Pray for 12-year-old Nina* who is being abused and beaten by the 23-year-old drug trafficker with whom she lives. Pray Nina will be able to escape this situation—she isn’t allowed to see her family, go to school, leave the house, or have anyone come into their home. Pray for her safety as this man has threatened to kill her and her whole family if Nina’s mother tries to prosecute.
o   Pray for five sisters, aged 10 to 18 years old, who want to leave prostitution, but don’t have a rescue home to which they can escape. Pray God will provide a safe place for these sisters to get away from those who are prostituting them.
o   Keep in prayer 6-year-old Mary* and her 10-year-old sister Martha* whose father is introducing them to alcohol, other men, vulgar music, and dancing with them in a vulgar way. Pray God protects them from this predator who is grooming them for prostitution.
·         Continue to pray for the staff and leaders of ESTHERS Children as they serve vulnerable girls and their families. Pray God will provide the resources they need to continue their work with at-risk girls and those who have been prostituted and abused.

United States
·         Keep newborn twins Jayke and Lilly held close in prayer during this critical time. The twins were born one month premature and are in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) of a local hospital. Pray Lilly and Jayke will gain weight and strength during the next days and weeks. Pray for their young mother Amanda who is recovering from a Cesarean section and pray for their young father Donald. Pray God will provide for this family as they negotiate the challenges of caring for premature twins.
·         Please keep in prayer student athletes injured playing football and other contact sports in which participants seem to be hitting harder, resulting in serious injuries. Pray for the increasingly large number of football players injured in recent games in a community along the Texas Gulf Coast. Pray for the young man who is now in a wheelchair with several broken vertebrae. Pray for the player who had his collarbone broken in a game last week and for another whose ACL was torn.  http://tinyurl.com/2or5s5
·         Pray God will bring healing to 18-year-old Jasmine who had surgery last week. Jasmine cannot walk or speak due to seizures she suffered as a baby. Pray for her family and all those who provide around the clock care for this young woman. Pray God will encourage them as they take care of Jasmine’s every need.

Faces of Children
·         Give God thanks for the opportunity to share the ministry of Faces of Children with the congregation of First Presbyterian Church in Harlingen, Texas last week. Thanks be to God for all those who came to the Church Family Together dinner and program to learn more about at-risk children and commit to praying for them. Give thanks to God for the new prayer partners who joined with Faces of Children following this event.
