Prayer Concerns for the week of October 1, 2012

Ethiopia
·         Keep in prayer children receiving treatment at the CURE International Hospital in Ethiopia. Pray God will meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of Muse, an 8-year-old little girl. www.helpcurenow.org

Kenya
·         Keep the children and people of Kenya in prayer following the discovery of a potentially dangerous malaria-transmitting breed of mosquito that is active outdoors and bites humans earlier in the evening. Malaria is usually known to be caused by the Plasmodium parasite and transmitted to humans by the Anopheles mosquito that is active indoors and normally bites humans at night. http://tinyurl.com/9qqgekm
·         Pray for the development of a drug or transmission-blocking vaccine that will prevent the spread of malaria by this new type of mosquito. Pray that the current indoor-based interventions to control mosquitoes will be expanded to address this new threat.
·         Pray for children and pregnant women at risk of contracting malaria, the leading cause of death in Kenya. An estimated 20 percent of all deaths in children under age five are attributed to malaria. http://tinyurl.com/8n9jbt2

United States, Mexico
·         Please continue to pray for the students, faculty, and staff of the Presbyterian Pan American School (PPAS), a college preparatory school in Kingsville, Texas. Pray for the Rev. Dr. Doug Dalglish, who was recently installed as the new school president. http://www.ppas.org/
·         Pray for the students from Mexico—many of them are in great danger when they travel back and forth to their homes in Mexico because of the escalating drug cartel violence.
·         Pray for those who are so fearful they can’t sleep, have anxiety attacks, and cry frequently. Pray for students who feel great guilt at being safe while their families are in danger in Mexico. Pray for those whose parents, siblings, or other family members have been kidnapped, threatened, robbed, assaulted, targeted for recruitment, or killed.

United States
·         Pray God will bring healing to 1-year-old Jacob who has Down syndrome and is very small for his age. http://www.ndss.org/  Give God thanks that Jacob was recently released from the hospital after receiving treatment for a recurrent kidney infection. Pray for his 3-year-old sister Victoria who is worried about her little brother. And please keep Jacob’s parents close in prayer as they make decisions about his medical care.
·         Pray God will bring comfort and peace to the family of Robert Belcher, II following his death in an oilfield accident. Pray God will provide for Robert’s 1-year-old son, Little Robert, III, and bring a community of love and support around him.
·         Please keep 12-year-old Isaiah* and his mother and step-father close in prayer during a very difficult time. Pray for healing, peace, and reconciliation within this family in crisis. Pray they will be able to find stable housing and employment—they are currently living in a shelter. Pray Isaiah will receive help for his behavioral and emotional issues soon. Pray that a community of support will surround this struggling family.
·         Please pray for 17-year-old John* who is also going through a difficult period in his life. Pray God will comfort and provide for this high school senior whose mother was recently sent to prison. Give thanks John lives with his father and has a stable support system in place.
·         Pray for all families living in shelters. Pray for those who have been evicted from their homes for economic reasons… loss of jobs or income, health issues, divorce, death of spouse, rent increases, etc. Pray for those who struggle to find affordable housing in markets that lack enough homes or apartments. Pray for families priced out of housing in areas with booming oil economies and sky-high apartment rents. Pray God will be at work within the hearts of those who have wholeheartedly embraced a spirit of greed. http://tinyurl.com/9lclksm  http://tinyurl.com/c5cy8gf   http://tinyurl.com/c8pat7a
