Prayer Concerns for the week of September 24, 2012

Canada
·         Pray for James and Lindsey who are living in Quebec where they are learning French in preparation for a long-term mission assignment in Chad. Pray this couple will be able to gain a comprehensive understanding of the language so they may share the love of Jesus Christ and serve the people of Chad effectively.
·         Please keep in prayer the children and people of Quebec as their suicide rates are the highest in Canada and the fifth highest rate in the world. Pray for children and youth who have lost parents or grandparents to suicide—the rate among baby boomers (the generation born after World War II) and the elderly is rising in Quebec. The moral and religious taboos against suicide collapsed during the Quiet Revolution, a time of rapid change in Quebec (1960-1966), possibly influencing the high rates of suicide among baby boomers. http://tinyurl.com/9e8qnh4  http://tinyurl.com/994jodn Pray for those contemplating suicide…that they might be reached in time and provided support and help…that they might know how precious they are in God’s sight…that they might know they are loved and beloved children of God.

Pakistan (Presbyterian Education Board – www.peb.edu.pk)
·         Give thanks to God for the start of the first phase of construction on the Sargodha Boys’ School. Thanks be to God that boys currently attending the Christian Girls’ High School in Sargodha will have their own school upon the completion of this new facility. Boys who attend government schools will also be able to attend this new school and continue their education in a supportive and nurturing environment.  http://tinyurl.com/8sxn3qd

Sierra Leone, Ghana, United Kingdom
·         Pray God will bring healing to 8-year-old Brooklyn who was transferred from a hospital in Sierra Leone to one in Ghana for treatment of typhoid fever and a severe urinary tract infection that caused renal failure. Give thanks to God Brooklyn was able to receive dialysis at this hospital, as well as surgery and blood transfusions for a serious complication in her arm. Doctors made an incision from Brooklyn’s armpit to the inside of her wrist to relieve the pressure from the severe swelling in her right arm caused by Compartment Syndrome. http://tinyurl.com/3zxj8na
·         Thanks be to God Brooklyn’s condition stabilized enough that she and her father Brent were able to fly to London for further treatment. Pray the medical care she receives in London will help with Brooklyn’s healing. Give God thanks that Brooklyn’s mother Courtney and her 7-year-old brother Sam were able to meet Brooklyn and her father in London. Praise God for the amazing support this family is receiving from all over the world.
·         Pray for this family who moved to Sierra Leone from the U.S. last month to work with trafficking survivors…with women and children who were trafficked into prostitution or labor.  http://fighttrafficking.org/

United States
·         Please keep 9-year-old Justin close in prayer as he struggles to process the death of his godmother. Pray for Justin’s single mom who is also grieving the loss of this dear friend and key member of Justin’s support community.

Faces of Children
  • Continue to keep in prayer Pamela, the sister of a Faces of Children prayer partner, as she grows weaker. Give thanks to God she isn’t experiencing great pain now and that she is in good spirits most of the time. Pamela has pancreatic cancer that has spread throughout her body. Please pray for comfort for Pamela and God’s peace to be with her and her family.
  • Thanks be to God that 13-year-old Clare, the granddaughter of a Faces of Children intercessor, is making progress at the treatment facility in which she was recently placed. Please continue to pray for her healing and that she will experience the peace that surpasses all understanding. Pray for her parents and grandparents as well during this difficult time.
  • Give God thanks for the new opportunities to share the ministry of Faces of Children! Please pray for Faces prayer partners Marilyn, Gayle, and Susie as they prepare prayer prompts and materials to share at events in Wisconsin, Nebraska, and Texas this fall. Pray God will be at work in the hearts of those who participate in these programs and be moved to pray for children. Please pray for Faces prayer partners Marci and Diane as they introduce the ministry of Faces of Children to the congregation of Mid-Coast Presbyterian Church in Topsham, Maine on Children’s Sabbath, October 21, 2012.
