Prayer Concerns for the week of September 10, 2012

Burma
·         Continue to keep Nancy* and the children for whom she cares at Hallelujah Orphanage in Burma in prayer. Give thanks to God that both Thomas and Thangte have recovered from a fever and that Thangte is well enough to return to school. Pray Thomas’ strength will return soon so he might go back to school, too. Give God thanks for healing both of Nancy’s parents who also had this fever. Please pray God will provide the resources Nancy and her family need to care for all 11 children (ranging in age from 9 to 18) in their home.

Syria, Turkey, Jordan, Iraq
·         Continue to keep the children and people of Syria close in prayer during this season of violence in their country. An 18-month-long uprising against the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has caused approximately 1.5 million people to flee their homes to escape the fighting. Pray for these internally displaced people (IDP) and for the 235,300 refugees who have fled Syria for neighboring countries like Turkey, Jordan, and Iraq. An astonishing 100,000 fled Syria just last month. http://tinyurl.com/8t4bs54  http://tinyurl.com/dyy252h
·         Pray for children living in IDP and refugee camps. Pray for those who miss the security of home and school and routine. Pray for children who are at great risk of abuse or trafficking while living in temporary shelters and camps. Pray God will provide the resources needed to help all children survive these difficult circumstances.
·         Pray for the 2.5 million people still in Syria who are in need of humanitarian aid. http://tinyurl.com/ck68wbg
·         Pray for the families of the estimated 23,000 people who have died in this conflict. http://tinyurl.com/9tkbfgl
·         Continue to pray for peace in Syria.

United States
·         Please pray for the children and people along the Gulf Coast who are dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Isaac which struck the Louisiana coast August 29, seven years to the day that Hurricane Katrina hit Louisiana.  Pray for those in Braithwaite, a small community on the east bank of the Mississippi River in Plaquemines Parish, who have been hit by repeated disasters from Katrina to Gustav to the 2012 BP oil spill. Hurricane Isaac passed directly over the area causing a strong storm surge and heavy flooding. http://tinyurl.com/d3n9lxk
·         Please pray for 4-week-old Henry who is being treated for bacterial meningitis. Pray for his complete healing and that he won’t suffer any long-term neurological problems or hearing loss. http://tinyurl.com/9jafzyh
·         Pray for 19 children found living alone and in squalor in a Kentucky home with no food in the house. Give thanks to God these children, ranging in age from 8 months to 14 years, were found by authorities and taken into state protective custody. The children had been left alone for a week in a home with no food or working air conditioner when temperatures in the area reached 101 degrees. Pray for the health and safety of these children, who had to resort to begging food from neighbors during the week they were alone. http://tinyurl.com/brvhu76

Faces of Children
·         Give thanks to God that Jim, the husband of a Faces of Children prayer partner, is doing well following a heart attack last week. Give God thanks that Jim doesn’t have any blockage in his arteries and didn’t need heart surgery. Pray for his complete healing and for his wife and children during this time of recovery.
·         Please keep Faces of Children intercessor John Van Dusen and his family in prayer as they grieve the death of John’s father. Pray for God’s peace that surpasses all understanding during this season of sorrow.
·         Please continue in prayer for Pamela, the sister of a Faces of Children intercessor, who is growing weaker as the pancreatic cancer progresses through her body. Pray for God’s comforting presence and peace.
·         Continue to pray for Claire, the 13-year-old granddaughter of a Faces of Children prayer partner, who was recently admitted to a treatment facility in another state. Please pray God will comfort her and that she will find healing and peace. Pray for her parents and grandparents as they cope with a difficult, emotional situation.
·         Pray for Theresa, the sister-in-law of a Faces of Children intercessor, who is struggling to find a job and has been unemployed for almost six months. Pray God will provide the right job for her at this time in her life. And pray God will provide the resources she needs to survive a number of difficult setbacks. Several years ago, Theresa’s husband suddenly died, and not long after that, her house burned to the ground. Pray for the resources Theresa needs to finish re-building her home as she has been living in a half-finished, half-roofed house without electricity, plumbing, or running water for several years.
