Prayer Concerns for the week of July 16, 2012

Brazil, United States
·         Please pray for the staff and leaders of ESTHERS Children, a ministry that serves girls in Brazil who have been prostituted or abused. Give thanks to God for the life and work of ESTHERS Children co-founder Mike Sutherland who died from a brain tumor on January 25, 2011. Pray that Mike’s legacy of service and compassion for the vulnerable girls of Recife, Brazil will continue. http://tinyurl.com/7ftddhx     www.estherschildren.org
·         Keep Mike’s wife Emily close in prayer as she continues to direct this ministry with the help of their daughter Jennifer. Pray God will provide them clarity and peace in making decisions about the ministry, especially during their season of loss and mourning.
·         Pray for Missiline, the Brazilian project director of ESTHERS Children, who is expecting a baby soon.
·         Pray for the 25 girls the ministry serves each day… that God will continue to grow their faith and show them the way for a better future.
·         Pray that God will guide the leaders of ESTHERS Children as they establish a Brazilian board of directors. Pray for the people God is calling to participate on this board… that they will share the vision of the ministry and be open to all God asks of them.
·         Please pray that God will provide the resources this ministry needs to serve the girls and their community.
·         Give thanks for the small core group of mothers who have started coming to the center on Wednesdays to help. Pray that God will continue to sow seeds of faith in these mothers through their daughters.

Burma
·         Keep in prayer the children and people of Northern Burma’s Kachin ethnic hill tribe as they continue to suffer attacks by the Burma Army. Pray for the more than 50,000 people who have been displaced by attacks that started over a year ago. Pray for children and people who have lost everything in these attacks… loved ones, homes, livelihoods, businesses, schools, churches, communities.
·         Please keep close in prayer children and families who hide in jungle sites with primitive shelter and few resources. Pray for children and families who are living in Internally Displaced People (IDPs) facilities that are cramped and overcrowded. Pray for those who have been in IDP camps for more than a year.
·         Give God thanks for the dedication and hard work of the Free Burma Rangers (FBR) relief teams that provide medical and dental care as well as Good Life Club programs of songs, health and spiritual teaching for children and skits and games for families. FBR teams hand out sports equipment to teachers for schools and t-shirts to children. The relief teams also pray with and for the internally displaced people (IDPs) as well as interview them and send their stories around the world. http://www.freeburmarangers.org/Reports/2012/20120612.html
·         Pray for the safety of FBR team members who go close to Burma Army camps in order to document and monitor their activity. Please pray they won’t be wounded, captured, or killed as they come close to Burma Army camps. Pray that the light shed on the army’s actions will bring about positive changes and a ceasefire.
·         As difficult as it may be, please pray for the Burma Army soldiers who attack Kachin villages, ransack homes, destroy schools and churches, take food supplies and livestock, and kill and rape. According to Free Burma Ranger reports, there are still over 110 Burma Army battalions operating in Kachin State. Pray for Burma Army recruits who are hungry and unmotivated… who don’t want to be there or believe their mission is not a noble one.

Zambia
·         Please keep in prayer children with disabilities who are receiving treatment at the CURE International Hospital in Zambia. Pray that God will meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of two little boys, 7-year-old Emmanuel, and 8-year-old Chilambe.  www.helpcurenow.org

Faces of Children
·         Please keep the Faces of Children exhibit team in prayer as they share this ministry with the 2012 Churchwide Gathering of Presbyterian Women participants in Orlando, Florida this week. Give thanks for the women and men whom God is calling to visit the Faces of Children exhibit booth this week. Pray the hearts and minds of those with whom the team visits will be open to praying for children through Faces of Children.
·         Continue to pray that more churches and individuals will join with the ministry of Faces of Children in spreading awareness about children in crisis and inviting more people to pray for children at risk.
