Prayer Concerns for the week of July 30, 2012

Burma
·         Give God thanks for Nancy’s* safe trip back to Burma after spending several months in the United States raising support for the ministry with which she is involved and to which God has called her. Nancy and her family established the Hallelujah Orphanage in their home in Burma to care for abused, neglected, and/or abandoned children. Continue to pray for the 11 children (ranging in age from 9 to 18) for whom Nancy and her family care.
·         Pray that God will provide the resources needed to care for all of these children who experienced trauma, abuse, or neglect at the hands of their parents or former caregivers.
·         Please pray that God will bring healing to Nancy who has been suffering severe stomach problems and migraine headaches. Pray that the medications she received will help with the healing.
·         Pray that God will bring rain to the land Nancy and her family farm and depend on for their livelihood. It is the rainy season in their area now, but the rains have not yet come.

Burma, China
·         Please keep in prayer the 10,000 Kachin ethnic hill tribe people who have fled fighting in Burma and sought refuge in China’s southwestern Yunnan province. Pray for children and families who lack access to proper sanitation, shelter, medical and health care, or schools in the refugee camps in China.
·         Pray for children and families who have been denied entry into China and forced back into the conflict zone where the Burma Army is fighting the Kachin Independence Army. Keep in prayer those who have been detained by Chinese authorities after crossing the border into China.
·         Pray that this conflict, which began a year ago after a 17-year truce, will end in a ceasefire. Pray for peace in this region. http://tinyurl.com/7v2byoz

United States
·         Continue to keep the mother and siblings of two murdered children, a 9-year-old girl and a 7-year-old boy, in prayer as their deaths are still unexplained. Last year, the mother of these children found their decomposing bodies under a mattress in their father’s home on the Spirit Lake Reservation in north central North Dakota. Pray for the children’s father who pled guilty to charges of reckless endangerment and public intoxication and is serving a two year prison term.  http://tinyurl.com/3u7ld75  http://tinyurl.com/csbmlw3
·         Please continue to keep in prayer the children, youth, and people of the Spirit Lake Reservation. Over seventy percent of the population on the reservation is under 25 and there is a high incidence of suicides, as well as drug and alcohol abuse, and children giving birth to children.  http://www.spiritlakenation.com/
·         Pray for all children who are neglected or abused by parents or caregivers under the influence of alcohol, prescription drugs, or illegal substances. Please pray for the safety, protection, and healing of these vulnerable children. Pray for adults and teens who prey upon children in their care or in their spheres of influence.
·         Pray for communities in which neglect as well as physical, sexual, and emotional child abuse is rampant. Pray that God will call qualified and compassionate adults in these communities to work with children, and especially children who are abused or neglected. Please pray that God will move in the hearts of those who condone or ignore situations in which children are uncared for or mistreated. Pray for an effective system of accountability and transparency for agencies and adults working with children. Please pray that God will be at work in healing these communities so children might grow up safely and to their full potential. http://tinyurl.com/7tp359g

Faces of Children
  • Thanks be to God for the successful heart surgery for 2-month-old Fiona, the great-granddaughter of a Faces of Children prayer partner. Pray Fiona will recover completely from her surgery and that the medical team caring for her will be able to control her pain. Please pray for Fiona’s parents as they watch their daughter go through this.
  • Give God thanks for the hundreds and hundreds of women (and a few fearless men) who came through the Faces of Children booth at the 2012 Churchwide Gathering of Presbyterian Women in Orlando, Florida last week. Please pray all those who made a prayer prompt for their keychain or lanyard will remember to pray for children and share the message of Faces of Children.
  • Please keep Faces of Children founder Margaret Purvis held close in prayer as she undergoes hip replacement surgery this week. Pray for the medical staff attending to her and for her family caring for her. Pray that she will make a full recovery and be able to walk without pain once again.
