Prayer Concerns for the week of May 14, 2012

Afghanistan
·         Please pray for the more than 15,000 children in southeastern Afghanistan who are deprived of an education by the Taliban. Militants have forced 50 schools to close in retaliation for a government ban on motorcycles in a region where insurgents were using them to carry out assassinations. http://tinyurl.com/7qsharj
·         Pray for teachers and students who have been and continue to be threatened by Taliban militants. Please pray for teachers who are robbed of their paychecks by Taliban fighters who use the money to purchase weapons.
·         Pray for peace and stability in this region.

Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, South Sudan
·         Continue to keep in prayer children and people who are affected by the violence of the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA), a brutal militia that’s abducted tens of thousands of children over the past three decades and is now thought to be operating in the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and South Sudan.
·         Pray for the estimated 3,400 children and people who have been kidnapped by the LRA and for the families of the more than 2,400 who have been killed by this militia. Pray for those who have been forced from their homes and villages by the LRA…last year, 466,000 people were displaced by them. http://tinyurl.com/7jdv2wu
·         Keep in prayer 17-year-old Jeanne, who was raped by a soldier in the LRA, and her 3-year-old son, Dieu Donné (whose name means “God Given”) who was the product of this violent assault. Please pray for Jeanne’s emotional and physical healing. Pray her son will be accepted in the community and not ostracized because of the circumstances of his birth.
·         Please pray for kidnapped children, some as young as 9 years old, who were forced to be sex slaves or soldiers…who were forced to mutilate victims…and for those who were forced to kill family members or friends.
·         Keep in prayer communities who are so terrified of possible attacks by LRA soldiers that they grab whatever belongings they can collect and hide in the bush until the threat has passed, sometimes for several days.
·         Pray for an end to this deadly violence and destruction.

United States
·         Please keep 2-year-old Lily Kate held close in prayer as she receives treatment at Children’s Hospital in Philadelphia for Kawasaki disease. http://kidshealth.org/parent/medical/heart/kawasaki.html Pray for her parents and extended family as they care for her and make decisions about her medical care. Pray she will gain strength and be able to come home soon. Pray for God’s healing touch upon Lily Kate.
·         Pray that God will bring comfort and peace to the children of U.S. military personnel deployed to war zones. Pray for those who provide care for the children of deployed service men and women. Please pray God will provide these caregivers with strength, stamina, and encouragement as they care for such vulnerable children. Please pray that God’s comforting presence will be with children whose parents have been killed in areas of conflict or war.

Faces of Children
·         Give God thanks for the opportunity to share the ministry of Faces of Children at the Presbyterian Women’s Birthday Dinner at First Presbyterian Church in Rockport, Texas last week. Praise God for the new intercessors at FPC, Rockport who have committed to pray for children through Faces of Children. And thanks be to God for the way in which this church’s leadership has embraced Faces of Children and their plans to incorporate prayer for children in the ministry of their church.
·         Please pray that God will comfort Madelyn, the 2-year-old granddaughter of a Faces of Children prayer partner, during a very difficult period in her young life. Pray for peace and reconciliation between Madelyn’s parents who have been using their daughter as a pawn between them. Please pray they will realize the damage they are inflicting on this little girl who seems to cry all the time. Pray for healing and civility in Madelyn’s parents’ relationship. Pray God will give her grandparents discernment in how to handle this situation.
·         Continue to keep Pamela, the sister of a Faces of Children intercessor, in prayer as she is hospitalized for complications from pancreatic cancer. Pray that God’s healing hand will be upon Pamela and bring her peace.
·         Please pray for Claire, the 13-year-old granddaughter of a Faces of Children prayer partner. Pray her physicians will be able to accurately diagnose and treat this teenage girl.
·         Give thanks to God for 26-year-old Brittany’s latest test results that show no growth or recurrence of the cancer in her skull. Please pray for her complete healing and the peace that surpasses all understanding.
