Prayer Concerns for the week of April 30, 2012

Cambodia
· Thanks be to God for the programs the Cambodian Hope Organization (CHO) holds to train parents and children about basic child rights and child protection. http://www.cambodianhopeorganization.org/
· Pray that parents who attended the two day training understand the importance of ensuring their children’s safety and addressing all aspects of their children’s wellbeing, including their physical, mental, and spiritual health.
· Pray that the children who attended the training understand how to protect themselves from exploitation and abuse.
· Pray for the staff and volunteers with CHO who work hard to make sure that the best interests of Cambodia’s children are met. Please pray that God will encourage them in this ministry and provide for their needs.

Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Bangladesh, India, and Malaysia
· Give God thanks that a destructive tsunami wasn’t triggered by the powerful April 11, 2012 earthquake off the coast of Indonesia. This 8.6 magnitude earthquake, which originated in the same area as the deadly December 2004 earthquake and tsunami, was also felt in Singapore, Thailand, Bangladesh, India, and Malaysia and set off tsunami warnings around the Indian Ocean. http://tinyurl.com/7ha732c http://tinyurl.com/d4yxxua
· Please continue to pray for those who survived the December 2004, 9.1 magnitude earthquake and the catastrophic tsunami it triggered. That disaster killed an estimated 230,000 people around the Indian Ocean, 170,000 in northern Indonesia alone.
· Pray for children who survived the December 2004 earthquake and tsunami and who have been terrified by the recent earthquake and aftershocks. Pray especially for children who lost their entire families in the 2004 tsunami. Pray God will bring them comfort and peace, and provide for their daily needs.
· Thanks be to God for the Indian Ocean Tsunami Warning System that was activated in June 2006 and sends tsunami alerts to residents in Indonesia, India, Sri Lanka, Australia, Burma, Thailand, the Maldives and other Indian Ocean islands, Malaysia, Pakistan, Somalia, Oman, Iran, Bangladesh, Kenya, South Africa, and Singapore.

Thailand
· Continue to keep the leaders, staff, and volunteers of the Garden of Hope’s children’s ministry project Taw Saeng held close in prayer as they work with at-risk hill tribe children and their parents in a bar/massage parlor district near Chiang Mai’s night bazaar. http://www.tawsaeng.org/ourorganization.html
· Pray for children who come to Taw Saeng (Thai for “to shine”) and give thanks that they receive a nutritious meal each day, help with homework, English language instruction, music and art therapy, and get to go on special outings periodically. Pray for those who have suffered abuse and give thanks to God that they are able to receive help and support through Taw Saeng.
· Please pray that God will provide the resources this ministry needs to continue working with at-risk hill tribe children and their families. Pray God will provide the documentation, resources, and training needed for the parents of these ethnic hill tribe children to obtain jobs that pay living wages. Pray for God’s encouragement and peace for parents who took their children out of poverty in the village only to find it again in the city.

Faces of Children
· Pray for 26-year-old Christopher Dorman, who is critically ill and in a coma. Please pray his physicians will be able to accurately diagnose and treat this young man. Pray for his parents (friends of a Faces of Children prayer partner) who are very concerned about their son. Pray for God’s healing touch to be upon Christopher.
· Give thanks to God for the good news about 11-month-old Annabel, the niece of a Faces of Children intercessor, who has been going through treatment for neuroblastoma. Thanks be to God that the large tumors are gone. Pray that the tumors in her bone marrow have responded to chemotherapy as well. Please keep Annabel’s parents, Greg and Vicky, held close in prayer, too, as they make decisions about her treatment and care. Pray for Annabel’s physicians, nurses, and other medical staff as they treat this little one.
· Please keep in prayer A.J. Cain, the father of Faces of Children director Chris Laufer, as he receives treatment for pneumonia, congestive heart failure, and kidney problems. Give God thanks for the compassionate and competent medical personnel treating him; for family and friends who are providing such wonderful support; and for the tremendous prayer support from far and wide.
