Prayer Requests for May 9, 2011

Cambodia, Thailand
  • Please pray for the more than 50,000 people who have been evacuated because of fighting along the Thai/Cambodia border. Thai and Cambodian troops are engaged in one of the worst border standoffs in 20 years. Pray for children and families displaced by this conflict along the border. Pray God will provide for them during this crisis—food, water, shelter, medicine, and schooling for children are needed. http://tinyurl.com/64aghwl
  • Pray for a peaceful, just resolution to this dispute over territory and because of underlying political interests. Both Cambodian and Thai governments blame one another for the attacks and some analysts believe each government has ulterior political motives. Pray that this will be fully resolved through peaceful means in the very near future. http://tinyurl.com/6gbnrnx
  • Pray for the staff and volunteers with nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) and ministries working in these areas. Give thanks to God for the work and support of Cambodian Hope Organization (CHO) in helping the children of Cambodia. www.cambodianhopeorganization.org
Ethiopia (CURE International – www.helpcurenow.org)
  • Pray for the disabled children receiving treatment at the CURE International Hospital in Ethiopia and for the medical staff and caregivers there. Please also pray for two boys: 17-year-old Deriba and 7-year-old Amon.
Haiti
  • Please continue to pray for the estimated 680,000 displaced children and people of Haiti who are still living in tent cities and makeshift camps following the January 2010 earthquake. http://tinyurl.com/6dhszog
  • Pray for those forced out of the camps by landowners and for those who left to escape the high crime rate and difficult conditions in the camps.
  • Pray for those living in the homes of friends or family members and for those living in damaged, unsafe housing.
  • Pray that God will provide safe homes for each child living in unsuitable or dangerous conditions, especially with the hurricane season nearing.
  • Please pray that disputes over land ownership and financing delays will be resolved so the Interim Haiti Recovery Commission can develop a workable reconstruction plan.
United States
  • Please keep in prayer the children and people of Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, Arkansas, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Illinois, Missouri, Kentucky, Georgia, Louisiana, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina and other states who were affected by a wave of deadly storms last month that spawned an estimated 140 tornadoes. http://tinyurl.com/6c5em8n, http://tinyurl.com/5uw652a, http://tinyurl.com/687udgq or http://tinyurl.com/3n849vc
  • Please hold these children, young people, and adults close in prayer as they begin the recovery process from what is the second deadliest tornado outbreak in United States history. Pray for the families and friends of those killed in the tornadoes and storms. Pray for those whose homes, businesses, schools, and communities were flattened by tornadoes.
  • Please pray for the families and friends of two 14-year-old girls who committed suicide last month. Pray that God will bring comfort and peace to Haylee and Paige’s parents, siblings, grandparents, and close friends.
  • Pray for the students at their middle school who are grieving and struggling with the girls’ deaths.
  • Please pray that God will give the school counselors and administrators discernment and guidance in helping their students deal with this tragedy. http://tinyurl.com/3rmmfkt, or http://tinyurl.com/3g3eutr, or http://tinyurl.com/3o5qp8f
  • Pray for teenage girls who are trafficked into prostitution and often arrested and prosecuted rather than rescued. Pray for a universal change of attitude towards these girls who are looked down on or ridiculed by society. Pray that hearts would soften towards girls who are prostituted—that more and more people would see them for the precious children of God that they are and realize they are trafficking victims. Pray for their freedom from controlling and violent pimps. http://tinyurl.com/44fq4lw
  • Pray that law enforcement will focus on arresting the customers and traffickers, not their victims.
  • Give thanks to God for the staff and volunteers with GEMS (Girls Educational and Mentoring Services) who work with trafficked teenage girls.
