- Please keep 14-year-old Saw* and 15-year-old Yy* held close in prayer as they return to their homes and former lives. These young men were coerced into a proxy force of the Burma Army and made to fight for them. Saw was 10 years old when he was kidnapped by a member of this proxy force (DKBA) and held for ransom. His family couldn’t pay the money, so he was forced to fight for the DKBA for four years. Pray for two other boys who were also kidnapped at the same time as Saw. *Name changed for protection and/or confidentiality.
- Pray for the children and families of several villages that were attacked by the Burma Army and burned to the ground this past summer. More than 900 people fled the area ahead of the mortar attacks. Pray for those who are still struggling to begin again. Give God thanks that no one was injured in these attacks and that the villagers are committed to rebuild their lives, beginning with their church first.
- Please keep the staff, leaders, and volunteers with Free Burma Rangers in prayer as they work to provide relief to children and families in crisis situations in Burma. Pray that God will provide the resources and supplies needed to properly equip the relief teams. Pray that each team member will be open to God’s guidance and love. Pray that the relationships between the team members will be strong and trusting.
Kenya
- Please keep the children and families at the internally displaced person’s (IDP) camp in the Maai Mahiu area of Kenya held close in prayer. The highway that runs in front of this IDP camp is called the HIV Highway—truckers visit prostitutes all along this route, creating a devastating corridor of sickness, death, and orphans. Seventeen percent of children in Kenya are orphans.
- Pray for 6-year-old Vanessa and her 2-year-old sister Trisha who live in the IDP camp and were abandoned by their mother. Vanessa, at the ripe old age of 6, is Trisha’s primary caregiver. Pray that God will bring a community of support and compassion around these two little girls. Pray that God will provide them with a loving family and a stable home.
- Please keep 3-year-old Kevin in prayer as his hands heal from the burns inflicted by his alcoholic grandmother who is his main caregiver. When his grandmother discovered Kevin had asked a neighbor for food, she burned his hands in punishment. Pray for a safe, loving home for Kevin.
- Pray for 1-year-old David who was abandoned by his young mother because she was unable to care for him. Give God thanks for the woman in the IDP camp who took David in, even though she has 10 children of her own.
