Prayer Concerns for the Week of March 5, 2012

Burma, China

· Please hold close in prayer Kachin ethnic hill tribe children and families who have fled the fighting at Burma’s border with China. A 17-year-old ceasefire between the Burma Army and the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) fell apart in June 2011 causing thousands of people to flee the border area. Pray for the estimated 60,000 refugees who have escaped Burma and fled to makeshift refugee camps in China’s southwestern Yunnan province. http://tinyurl.com/6moshvs

· Pray God will provide for the children and people struggling to survive in these camps. Clean drinking water, good sanitation, shelter, food, bedding, medical care, medicines, clothing, and reliable electricity are all in short supply. Pray temporary schools will be created so children can continue their education while in the camps.

· Give thanks to God for the volunteers from Christian house churches in China and the work they are doing among these refugees. Pray God will bring more volunteers to help with the continuing influx of refugees.

· Please pray for peace in this region—that the leaders of both Burma’s military and the KIA will reach a peace agreement that will be honored. http://tinyurl.com/857vomb

India

· Give God thanks that the 200,000 million Dalit and tribal people of India (people who are considered untouchable and often relegated to the bottom of India’s social and economic ladder) are experiencing gains as the country’s economic situation improves. http://tinyurl.com/7wklw8g

· Pray that the practice of physical untouchability will cease throughout all parts of India.

· Pray for Dalit children…that they will have the opportunity for first-rate education, dignified employment when they are of age, lives of fulfillment and purpose, and, most of all, the knowledge of Jesus Christ’s saving love.

Liberia (Hinds Feet Ministries – www.hindsfeetministries.org)

· Please keep in prayer the children that attend Hinds Feet Ministries’ early learning centers in Liberia, West Africa. Pray God will provide the resources needed to feed, clothe, and educate these children. Many of their parents are unable to afford to send them to school because of the high unemployment rate (more than 80 percent) in Liberia. www.hindsfeetministries.org/services

· Pray for the children who attend the centers as they prepare to present a musical drama on March 31 as an evangelistic outreach. Give thanks to God for this opportunity the children, staff, and volunteers will have to share the Good News of Jesus Christ.

· Pray for Emmanuel, a third grade student at Heritage Early Learning Center, who is grieving the death of his father. Pray for the family of Amelia, a kindergarten student who died from pneumonia in January. Please pray for God’s healing comfort and justice for another student… a 6-year-old who was raped last month.

Philippines

· Keep the children and people of the central Philippine island of Negros in prayer as they deal with the aftermath of a 6.7 magnitude earthquake early last month. More than 700 aftershocks were reported in the 20 hours following the quake. Pray for the families and friends of those killed or still missing because of the landslides triggered by the earthquake. http://tinyurl.com/89nw6l9

Syria

· Please pray for children and families affected by the violence and conflict in Syria. Between 8,000 and 11,000 people have been killed since the uprising against the Syrian government began in January 2011. More than 400 children have been killed. http://tinyurl.com/7ked6lh http://tinyurl.com/7n2my38

· Pray for children who have been injured or displaced by the Syrian Army’s heavy shelling and attacks on civilian neighborhoods. Pray for those who have lost parents, loved ones, or friends in this violence. Please pray that God will provide children in these besieged neighborhoods with water, food, and medicine.

· Pray for the estimated 400 children who have been arrested randomly and put in Syrian prisons. Pray for those who have been tortured or sexually abused while in detention. http://tinyurl.com/7cddsl4

· Please pray for peace and reconciliation throughout Syria. Pray that God’s healing presence will be recognized and honored by all those struggling for racial, political, and/or religious power.
