Prayer Concerns for the week of February 27, 2012

Afghanistan

· Pray for God’s protection and provision for the children of Afghanistan living in refugee camps in Kabul. Severe cold weather and snowstorms have caused the deaths of many small children and babies this winter.

· Please pray for the parents and siblings of these little boys who literally froze to death: 1-and-a-half-year-old Mirwais, 1-year-old Abdul Hadi, and 1-month-old Ismail. Pray for the family of Naghma and Nazia, 3-month-old twin girls, and the family of 3-year-old Fawzia and 5-year-old Janan, a sister and brother, who also froze to death.

· Pray for babies and toddlers who have never been warm in their short lives. More than 35,000 people are living without heat or electricity in two large displacement camps in Kabul during one of the coldest winters in 20 years.

· Pray humanitarian groups and government agencies will work cooperatively to find a clear strategy to help these children and their families. At Afghanistan’s current mortality rate for children under age 5, one out of every seven children in the refugee camps in Kabul won’t survive until his or her sixth birthday.

· Pray for peace and stability in the regions from which these families have fled. Government authorities believe it is safe for them to return, but most families disagree and continue to live in the displacement camps.

China, United States

· Please keep the children and young people working in China’s manufacturing plants held close in prayer.

· Pray for those who work excessive hours—sometimes seven days a week—in harsh and unsafe conditions to manufacture electronic components for companies like Apple, Dell, Hewlett-Packard, I.B.M., Lenovo, Motorola, Nokia, Sony, Toshiba, and others. http://tinyurl.com/7afw37a

· Pray for the decision-makers at these companies and those at the Chinese supply companies in which the components are manufactured…pray they will make the safety and welfare of their workers a top priority. Pray they cease using underage labor in these manufacturing facilities. http://tinyurl.com/77ndama

· Give thanks to God that executives at a Chinese manufacturing facility that supplies electronic components for Apple products will drastically raise workers’ salaries and reduce overtime at their factories. http://tinyurl.com/7ack2va

Mexico, United States

· Please continue to keep the Presbyterian Pan American high school students from Mexico held close in prayer. Many of them are in great danger when they travel back and forth to their homes in Mexico because of the escalating drug cartel violence. http://www.ppas.org/

· Pray for those who are so fearful they can’t sleep, have anxiety attacks, and cry frequently. Pray for those who feel great guilt at being safe in the United States while their families are in danger in Mexico.

· Pray for students whose families have had dangerous or deadly encounters with the drug cartels and the violence associated with them.

· Please pray for those who have had parents, siblings, or other family members kidnapped, followed, threatened, extorted, car jacked, robbed, assaulted, targeted for recruitment, or killed.

· Pray for the families of these students…that God will provide for them and keep them safe.

Faces of Children

· Please continue to keep 10-month-old Annabel, the niece of a Faces of Children prayer partner, held close in prayer as she goes through chemotherapy treatments for neuroblastoma.

o Pray for God’s healing touch upon this baby girl. Pray she will gain weight and strength and learn how to swallow again once the feeding tube is removed.

o Continue to pray for Annabel’s parents, Greg and Vicky, as they help care for their infant daughter and make difficult decisions about her medical treatment.

· Give God thanks for answering prayers about Peachy, the daughter of a Faces of Children prayer partner. A year ago, Peachy went through a 12-hour operation to remove an aggressive brain tumor. Thanks be to God for healing this young woman…her mother says she is doing well and that this was a true miracle.

  • Please continue to pray that more churches and individuals will join with the ministry of Faces of Children in spreading awareness about children in crisis and inviting more people to pray for children at risk.
