Prayer Concerns for the week of March 19, 2012

Haiti

· Please continue to keep the children and people of Haiti close in prayer. Pray for the 135,000 families who are still without permanent housing two years after a devastating earthquake destroyed the homes and livelihoods of millions of Haitians. http://tinyurl.com/73rmm83

· Pray for those who continue to live in 707 tent camps around Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti. Pray for children, women, and other vulnerable people living in these dangerous, dirty displacement camps without running water, electricity, or proper sanitation.

· Pray for the thousands of families and children who have been forced out of displacements camps, often into conditions that are worse than the camps. Please ask that God will provide for their most immediate and fundamental needs.

· Pray God will be at work in the hearts and minds of those with the authority and ability to change these desperate situations. Pray that adequate housing will be built for every child and vulnerable person.

Mexico, United States

· Please continue to pray for the children and people of Mexico and along the Texas/Mexico border who are affected by the drug cartel violence in this region. Almost 50,000 people have died since 2006 when a government offensive on the narcotics trade first began. http://tinyurl.com/896rx3d

· Pray for Mexican children who are unable to receive an education because their schools are closed due to the drug cartel threats of violence against and extortion of school teachers. Pray for parents who are unable to work because of the violence.

· Pray for families in Mexico and the United States who have lost loved ones in this violence. Pray they will experience God’s comforting peace in this time of sadness, uncertainty, and terror.

· Pray for those who derive pleasure from violence and for those who are consumed and driven by greed. Pray that God’s justice will rain down on all those guilty of murder. Pray for peace and justice in this country.

· Pray for the healing of those addicted to drugs—for an end to the fuel that propels the huge machinery of drug trafficking. Mexico’s drug cartels are the main foreign suppliers of marijuana and methamphetamine to the United States. The chief transit route for the U.S.’s cocaine and heroin is through Mexico.

Sudan, South Sudan

· Please keep in prayer the children and people of South Sudan and Sudan as discord and conflict continue between the two countries. South Sudan broke off from Sudan in July 2011and formed its own government and since then, there has been sporadic fighting and troops massed at the border between the two countries.

· Pray for the hundreds of thousands of South Sudanese people still living in the north who face discrimination and persecution because of their citizenship. Pray for the more than 350,000 who have moved back to the south, only to find greater poverty, hardship, and violence than in the north. http://tinyurl.com/6wkkyol

· Pray for north Sudanese children and families living in South Sudan who also face discrimination because of their citizenship.

· Please pray for peace between these two countries. Pray that the hearts and minds of those who lust after violence and power will change…will know the healing love of Jesus Christ and the mighty power of God’s grace.

United States

· Please pray for God’s healing mercies to be upon 1-year-old Edward who was recently diagnosed with bilateral retinoblastoma, a rare pediatric eye cancer. Give God thanks that the tumor in his right eye is small and hasn’t blocked the central vision in that eye. Pray that the larger tumor in his left eye will respond to treatment. Please keep Edward close in prayer as he goes through chemotherapy and all the medical procedures involved in saving his life. Pray for Edward’s parents as they navigate complex medical options and care for their precious little boy. http://littleeddiejohnson.blogspot.com/

Faces of Children

· Please keep the Daudet, the cousin of a Faces of Children prayer partner, held close in prayer as she goes through treatment for bone cancer. Pray that the bone biopsy and vertebra treatment she will have this week goes well. Please pray for a good prognosis for Daudet and that God will bring comfort and peace to her and her husband.
