Prayer Requests for July 5, 2010

Burma

  • Please keep Nancy* and her family in prayer as they care for 18 orphans in their modest home in the northwest part of Burma. Pray that God will provide the resources they need to care for these children, especially now that the dry season has come and their well is running dry. Pray for rain that will replenish the water supplies in this part of the country.

Nepal

  • Pray for the children and staff of the Praise Home as they also cope with water shortages in Katmandu. Pray that God will bring rains to restore the water supply in Nepal.

United States

  • Pray for 8-month-old Emily who was recently diagnosed with a tumor behind her left eye. Pray that God will provide her family with the resources needed to continue her chemotherapy treatment. Pray for God’s healing presence with Emily and that God will comfort her family and bring them peace.
  • Please pray that God will protect and comfort 8-year-old Brianna who is living in an abusive home environment. Pray that a community of support will surround this child who is being hurt by a sibling.
  • Please pray for the children of Milwaukee public schools who are adversely affected by the recent cuts in funding, programming, and the number of teachers.
  • Pray for children who have to leave the safety and comfort of public education during summer vacation. Pray for those who will go without meals this summer while they are out of school.
  • Please keep 12-year-old Bonita* held close in prayer as she begins treatment for a recently diagnosed brain tumor. Pray for her complete healing and that God will bring peace and comfort to this foster child.
  • Pray that God will guide Andrea, a 32-year-old mother of two, as she deals with her terminal diagnosis. Pray for Andrea’s sons (9 years old and 2 years old). Pray for God’s comforting presence to be with Andrea and her family in this frightening and painful time.
  • Please continue to pray for the 100 boys who are attending camp at the Ron Burton Training Village this summer.
    • Pray especially for those coming from dysfunctional, stressful home environments… that they might be able to leave this behind and engage fully in camp activities designed to help them learn to love God and consider others before self, as well as help them attain physical adeptness and academic excellence.
    • Pray for the health and safety of all the campers—sports injuries and illnesses that spread in close quarters are always concerns in a camp setting. Give thanks to God for the general good health of the campers during the H1N1 flu outbreak last year. http://www.ronburtontrainingvillage.com/
  • Pray for Mike and Emily, cofounders of ESTHERS Children, who are dealing with a devastating diagnosis. Pray that God will provide Mike with a complete healing of his inoperable brain tumor. Please pray that they will be able to continue their ministry of working with girls in Brazil who’ve been prostituted and abused. (ESTHERS Children – www.estherschildren.org)

Uzbekistan

  • Please pray for the two million children who were forced to harvest Uzbekistan’s cotton crop last year. Uzbekistan is the sixth largest producer of cotton in the world. The authoritarian government closes all schools, colleges, and other offices during the three-month harvest season. Pray for school children, some as young as six years old, who must pick cotton during the harvest period.
  • Pray that the practice of forcing children to harvest cotton will end…that Uzbekistan will honor the International Labour Organisation conventions on child labor they signed in 2008.
  • Give God thanks that major retailers like Wal-Mart, Gap, and Nike aren’t supporting the use of Uzbek cotton in their products.http://tinyurl.com/25hygv4 (article available online only until July 7, 2010)

Faces of Children

  • Please keep Laura, a Faces of Children prayer partner, held close in prayer as she recovers from an accident. Laura suffered a broken ankle when she was hit by a car while biking. Give God thanks that she wasn’t hurt worse in this accident!
