Prayer Requests for June 28, 2010

Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan

  • Please keep the children and people of Kyrgyzstan held close in prayer during this troubled time. Violent clashes between Kyrgyz and Uzbeks in the southern part of the country have left 2,000 people dead and displaced hundreds of thousands. Pray for peace, reconciliation, and an end to ethnic cleansing.
  • Pray for the estimated 400,000 Uzbeks who have been forced to flee for their lives. Pray for those living in tent camps near the Uzbekistan border and for those who entered Uzbekistan to settle in camps there. Overcrowding, unsanitary conditions, a shortage of clean water and sufficient food, spreading illness, and limited medical care are contributing to the squalid conditions in the camps. Pray that relief supplies will quickly reach children and people sheltering in the camps. http://tinyurl.com/34uw5bv http://tinyurl.com/3a2uuqf

Nigeria

  • Pray for children in a remote northern region of Nigeria who have been sickened by exposure to lead unearthed by villagers illegally digging for gold. Pray for the families of the 100 children who have died from this toxic exposure and pray for God’s healing touch for the hundreds of children who are sick because of it. Pray for raised awareness about the dangers of extracting gold from rock and exposing children to the deadly dust or particles. Pray for successful cleanup efforts. http://tinyurl.com/26ousph http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/37516266

Pakistan

  • Please pray for Ruth and her three children who have recently come to the Presbyterian Education Board’s SHE Project shelter home. Ruth was able to obtain a divorce from her husband who was a drug addict and beat her badly. However, she is now being harassed by a family friend who has threatened to kidnap her children unless she marries him. Pray for Ruth’s protection, and for her physical and emotional healing. Pray that her children will heal from the trauma of witnessing her abuse. Presbyterian Education Board –http://tinyurl.com/3yp28ef

Thailand

  • Please keep the 75 ethnic hill tribe children living at the Mae Ka Chan Children’s Home in Thailand held close in prayer. Pray for seven children who are still sick with high fevers and headaches. Give God thanks for the healing that has taken place in the 15 children who had this mysterious illness. Please pray that none of the other children at the home or the staff become sick with it.

United Kingdom, Hong Kong

  • Pray for 14-month-old Magnus and his young mother following the tragic death of his father who fell off of a balcony while in England. Magnus and his mother were in Hong Kong at the time. Pray that Magnus and his family—his mother, grandparents, aunt, uncle, and cousins—might feel God’s comforting presence now. Magnus’ family doesn’t have a strong faith on which to rely. Pray that the love of Jesus Christ might be made known to them through the compassion and generosity of others during this season of sorrow.

United States

  • Pray for young people who suffer from depression and contemplate suicide as a way out. Pray for family members who also suffer when a young person in their family is so depressed. Pray that God will guide them and provide a loving and understanding community of support for these youth and families.
  • Please pray that God will help Becky recover from the horrible experience of being date raped. Pray that she will regain her sense of worth and value and that she will seek God’s guidance about safe locations and companions.
  • Give thanks to God for the ministry of the Ron Burton Training Village that has assisted more than 3,000 young people in their spiritual, physical and educational growth. Most of them are from disadvantaged or at-risk backgrounds. Pray for the boys attending the camp this summer. http://www.ronburtontrainingvillage.com/

Faces of Children

  • Give thanks to God for the opportunity to share the ministry of Faces of Children at the Presbyterian Women’s Synod of Lakes and Prairies Gathering in Storm Lake, Iowa last week and for the new prayer partners who committed to pray for children.
