Prayer Requests for March 2, 2009

Kenya (CURE International – www.helpcurenow.org)
  • Pray for the disabled children receiving treatment at the CURE International Hospital in Kenya and for the medical staff and caregivers there. Please also pray for two girls, 10-year-old Peninah and 13-year-old Naomi.
Uganda (DEYWA)
  • Pray for Pastor Simon Peter and those involved in his ministry, DEYWA, as they reach out to children and people affected by violence in northern Uganda and southern Sudan.
  • Please pray for the health and wellbeing of Dorah’s newborn twins who were delivered prematurely. Pray that God will comfort Dorah and her family during this anxious time.
  • Give thanks to God for the life of the baby girl who was rescued several years ago when her mother attempted to shove her down a latrine. This little girl was adopted by a mission doctor not long after the baby’s rescue and now lives in the United States. The doctor and her husband will soon bring their daughter back to Uganda for a visit. Thank God again for answering prayers in this situation.
United States
  • Pray that God will heal 15-year-old Jay who recently had surgery to remove a brain tumor. Please pray that God will comfort him and his family during this frightening and painful experience.
  • Pray that God’s healing touch will comfort a young father of three boys (two teens and a 14-month-old) who was given a very discouraging cancer diagnosis. Pray for these boys and their mother as they all cope with the very real possibility of losing their father/husband.
  • Please keep Curtis and Cory held close in prayer following the sudden death of their young father. Pray that these boys, their mother, and the rest of their family will know the comforting presence of Jesus Christ during their season of sorrow.
  • Pray for children in the U.S. and around the world who are experiencing economic insecurity for the first time in their lives. Pray for their families as they negotiate the uncertainties of joblessness and/or homelessness.
Zambia
  • Give thanks to God for the current course on child abuse being taught at a theological college in Zambia.
  • Pray for the instructor of this course—that she will continue to be sensitive to the students’ cultural backgrounds and that God will provide her with many ways to effectively teach them about the abuse of children.
  • Pray that the students in this course will come to realize God’s heart for children and be open to learning alternative ways of parenting and disciplining them. Current cultural practices include beating children to keep them from becoming spoiled.
  • Pray for an end to the abuse of children in this country and around the world; an end to physical, sexual, and emotional abuse; an end to neglect; and an end to using witchcraft on children, or accusing them of being witches.
Yemen
  • Please keep the girl children of Yemen in prayer as they are at great risk to be married off at a very early age because of grinding poverty and often in accordance with tribal custom.
  • Give thanks to God that a small movement to end this practice is occurring in Yemen. Pray for several brave, young girls—9-year-old Arwa, 10-year-old Nujood, and 12-year-old Reem—who have gone to court to complain that they were married off without their consent and to obtain divorces. Pray that the Yemeni government will ban the practice of early marriage that physically and emotionally harms girls.
  • Pray for the safety of all the girls who have spoken out about this practice. Pray that their families won’t hurt them or be tempted to sell them off as the world economy slumps.
  • Pray for a change of heart, especially for the fathers, and for financial security for these families. http://newsvote.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/7711554.stm http://www.csmonitor.com/2008/0822/p07s03-wome.html
Faces of Children
  • Please continue to pray that more churches and individuals will join with the ministry of Faces of Children in spreading awareness about children in crisis and inviting more people to pray for children at risk.
