Prayer Requests for March 16, 2009

Rwanda

  • Please pray for the 14 young men from the United States who are on a mission trip to Rwanda. Pray that they will have safe travels and a successful trip.
  • Pray that these young men will be encouraged and enriched by their efforts in helping build a Christian camp system for orphans and poverty-stricken children.
  • Pray also that God will give these young men’s families peace of mind while they are on this trip.

Sudan

  • Please pray for the children in the Darfur region of Sudan who are suffering because of the expulsion of so many humanitarian aid groups. The government of Sudan responded to an International Criminal Court (ICC) arrest warrant for its president by expelling 16 non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in the area, forty percent of the humanitarian workforce. The government accused these NGOs of cooperating with the ICC.
  • Pray that the 4.7 million people who rely on outside aid in this region will have their needs met some way, somehow.
  • Give thanks to God that UNICEF is still operational in Darfur and throughout Sudan, providing help to children and women. Pray that they will be able to find other agencies with whom to work in this area as many of the NGOs with whom they partnered have been forced to leave by the Sudanese government.
  • Pray that the international community will not avert its eyes from this systematic brutality. An estimated 2.7 million people have been driven from their homes and at least 200,000 people have been killed in this region.

United States

  • Pray for the family and friends of 14-year-old Kayla who was hit by a car as she tried to cross a busy highway with two younger siblings. Please pray for these 11-year-old siblings as they have been severely traumatized by witnessing their sister’s death. Pray that God will comfort them and their parents. Pray that God will be with the woman who hit this young teen and sustain her as she deals with the repercussions of this terrible accident.
  • Pray that the community will stop pointing fingers of blame and open arms wide in compassion and support.

  • Please pray for healing for newborn Luke* who is in a neonatal intensive care unit with serious health issues. Pray that God will comfort his parents who are ethnic hill tribe refugees from Burma and who struggle to understand the complex medical issues facing their baby.
  • Pray for 6-year-old Diana* who has been in and out of foster care frequently. Diana has also been exposed to too much violence, and inappropriate behavior and information for one so young. Pray that this little girl will heal from the trauma she’s experienced and that she will be able to form a loving and trusting connection with her new foster parents.
  • Give thanks to God for these foster parents, Diana’s former first grade teacher and her husband, who have taken an interest in her wellbeing and want to provide a loving home for her. Please pray that God will encourage and sustain them.
  • Thanks be to God for Diana’s doctor who has also taken a special interest in this little girl and who has gone to great lengths to research Diana’s medical history. Because Diana was moved to so many different foster care and residential care placements, no one seemed to know or have access to her medical history.
  • Pray that this little girl, who has come close to falling through the cracks, will know she is loved and cared for, not only by her foster parents and doctor, but by a loving Savior who embraces children unconditionally.
*Name changed for confidentiality and/or protection.

Faces of Children

  • Give thanks to God for the opportunity to share the ministry of Faces of Children with the women of Highland Presbyterian Church in El Paso, Texas this month. Thanks be to God for the new intercessors who committed to pray for children at risk! Please pray that those who heard God calling them to pray for children will respond.
  • Praise God for all of the Faces of Children prayer groups and prayer partners who faithfully and prayerfully lift the hurting and vulnerable children of the world into the presence of God.
