Prayer Requests for January 7, 2008

Uganda (DEYWA)
  • Give thanks to God that two children being cared for by DEYWA have been accepted into the Lulwanda Children’s Home in Mbale where they will live and go to school until they are 18 years old. Pray that the legal process necessary for these children to move to Lulwanda will go well and that the children will make a smooth transition into their new home.
  • Please continue to pray that God will provide for the staff and volunteers with DEYWA as they reach out to orphaned and at-risk children in Northern Uganda. Pray that God will sustain and encourage them in their efforts to minister to these children. Pray for the thousands upon thousands of orphans in this country.

Iraq

  • Please be in prayer for the children of Iraq who live with war on their doorsteps—who live with violence on a daily basis. Please pray for all children in war torn areas.
  • Pray for children who have witnessed the deaths of parents, siblings, other family members, friends or neighbors as they struggle with a multitude of resulting psychological disorders. Pray that they will have access to counseling and therapists to help them deal with this overwhelming trauma.
  • Pray for children who have been orphaned and for those who have been abandoned by parents unable to provide for them any longer. Pray that they will have a safe place in which to grow, compassionate caregivers and hope for a brighter future.
  • Pray that the children of Iraq may have access to food, medical care, and education.
  • Pray for the children who are unable to attend school or play outside because of the level of violence in their neighborhoods. Over 200,000 children in Iraq are estimated to be out of school now. (Save the Children UK)
  • Pray for children who are desensitized to death and destruction; who are being trained to kill and hate.

Kenya

  • Please pray for the children of Kenya who have been affected by the post-election violence there. About 100 people, mostly women and children, were intentionally trapped in a church by a swarming mob of machete-wielding men who then set fire to the building.
  • Pray for the children and adults who were injured in this violent attack and for the families of those who were burned alive. (Washington Post, BBC News, Associated Press)
  • Pray for the safety and well-being of children and families who have been forced out of their homes by looters and gangs of rival tribal groups. Pray for peace and reconciliation in these unstable and volatile communities.
  • Pray that God will raise up peacemakers in Kenya to help bring stability to their country. Pray that the conflicting political parties and ethnic groups will be willing to work together for the welfare of their country.
