Prayer Concerns for the Week of January 6, 2014

Belize
·         Please keep the mission team from First Presbyterian Church, Midland, Texas in prayer as they partner with a local ministry in Belize this week. Give thanks to God for the team’s safe travels to Belize and the opportunity they have to serve alongside members of the community of El Progreso and The Word at Work ministry team. http://tinyurl.com/ot5glwl   http://www.twaw.org/
·         Pray God will build strong and fruitful relationships between this team (six of whom are Faces of Children prayer partners) and the people with whom they will serve and minister.
·         Pray for the people of El Progreso, the village in which the mission team will spend most of their time. Pray for the children the team will encounter during their time in this impoverished village.

South Sudan
·         Continue to keep close in prayer the children of South Sudan who are affected by more than three weeks of fighting between President Kiir’s SPLA government forces and rebels loyal to former vice president Machar. http://tinyurl.com/ph8b6op   http://tinyurl.com/qg64qcq   http://tinyurl.com/ocmbane  http://tinyurl.com/lw23vtu
·         Pray God will provide for the immediate and most urgent needs of the 200,000 people who have been driven from their homes by this conflict. Pray those in temporary camps will have access to food, healthcare, clean water, and sanitary facilities.
·         Please pray God will comfort the loved ones of the more than 1,000 people killed in the fighting.
·         Pray for stability and peace in this new nation that seems to be on the brink of civil war. Pray South Sudan’s leaders will truly work to resolve political, ethnic, and tribal differences through peaceful means. Pray for peace in this impoverished, under-developed country that is plagued by ethnic fighting.

United States
·         Please pray for 8-year-old Carson* and his 5-year-old sister Anne* whose family dynamics are quite dysfunctional. Give God thanks these siblings have been able to attend Sunday school regularly and are blossoming in their faith.
o   Pray for their maternal grandmother Louise* who struggles to stay sober and was recently arrested for driving under the influence. Give thanks to God she was reported and taken off the streets before she could hurt anyone. Pray for Louise’s husband Jack* who refuses to stop drinking and doesn’t support her efforts to maintain sobriety. Please pray God’s healing touch will be upon this couple struggling with severe addictions to alcohol.
o   Pray God will soften Carson’s heart towards his grandmother—he made a hurtful comment to Louise after her arrest. Please pray Carson, Anne, and their parents will provide Louise with the support and love she needs in this challenging season of her life. Pray their church community will also embrace and support this struggling family.
·         Please keep close in prayer at-risk children and families affected by some of the coldest winter weather to hit the United States in decades. About half of the lower 48 states will have wind chills below zero by January 7. http://tinyurl.com/pc272u6
o   Pray God will provide safe and warm shelter for homeless children and families. Pray for those living on the streets or in their cars.
o   Pray for children and families with inadequate heating in their homes. Pray for families who cannot afford to pay the high heating bills that may be associated with this record cold weather.
