Prayer Requests for the week of October 24, 2011

Burma (Partners Relief and Development – http://www.partnersworld.org/index.html)
  • Please pray that God will provide the resources necessary for the staff and volunteers with Partners Relief and Development to continue to help 31,000 internally displaced people (IDP) in Burma’s Central Shan State. Pray for these homeless hill tribe people hiding in jungles and fields, fearful of more Burma Army attacks. The army has been instructed to shoot civilians on sight.
  • Pray for those struggling to find food for their families. Heavy rains and flooding throughout Southeast Asia and attacks by Burma Army units have made it almost impossible for farmers in Shan State to farm their fields. Pray for ethnic hill tribe people whose survival depends upon what they are able to harvest from their fields.
  • Pray for the girls and women who have been targets of sexual assaults and gang rapes by members of Burma Army units. Please pray for healing and comfort for these young women and girls. Pray for justice for them.
  • Pray for the relief team members who risk their lives to deliver food, clothing, and medicine to IDPs hiding in dangerous areas.
  • Pray for an end to the violence against the ethnic hill tribe people of Burma. Pray for real reformation and transformation of Burma’s autocratic government http://tinyurl.com/3bo6q5c
India (Dalit Freedom Network – www.dalitnetwork.org)
  • Please pray for the Dalit Freedom Network (DFN) volunteers, interns, and workers on the ground in India who teach, serve in the ministry’s economic development programs, treat the sick in DFN’s clinics and hospitals, and carry forward the Dalit freedom and justice movement every day. Pray God will encourage and sustain them in this challenging work.
  • Pray for young women in India’s southern state of Andhra Pradesh who have been trafficked into temple prostitution. Pray for the freedom and healing of these young girls (called joginis). Give thanks to God for the DFN Jogini Awareness and Prevention Program that helps women and girls trafficked into temple prostitution. Pray that God will provide the resources needed to continue helping rescue and defend these girls and women.
Niger, Libya
  • Please keep in prayer the hundreds of thousands of children and people fleeing the fighting in Libya. More than 200,000 Nigeriens have fled the violence in Libya to return to their home country of Niger where more than 60 percent of the people there live in extreme poverty.
  • Pray for those who are struggling to provide for their families without the lucrative wages they were making in Libya and without prospects for employment in Niger. http://tinyurl.com/3u69daw
United States
  • Give thanks to God that 11-year-old Dallas has been placed in a home with foster parents willing to let him stay in the same school by driving him to his regular bus stop 10 miles away. Please continue to keep Dallas held close in prayer as he adjusts to this placement and pray it will bring stability and consistency into his life. Dallas’ mother Betty* was arrested for driving without insurance and accused of child neglect which put Dallas into foster care. Pray that Betty will maintain her hard won sobriety throughout this challenging experience. Please pray that Betty will make better choices for herself and Dallas in the future.
  • Continue to pray for 13-year-old Jacob* and his father Israel, a single parent who has been hospitalized for many weeks. Give God thanks that Israel has gotten stronger. Pray that God will bring complete healing to Israel so he will be able to care for his son. Jacob’s mother was killed by a drunk driver when he was only a year old. Pray God will comfort Jacob while he is apart from his father. Please keep Jacob’s grandmother in prayer as she takes care of her grandson and son.
  • Pray that God will continue to strengthen Doris and Hycent’s twin babies who were born six weeks prematurely. Give thanks to God these little ones are able to breathe on their own now.
Faces of Children
  • Please continue to pray that more churches and individuals will join with the ministry of Faces of Children in spreading awareness about children in crisis and inviting more people to pray for children at risk.
