Prayer Requests for the week of September 19, 2011

China
  • Please pray for parents who’ve had their babies taken from them by Chinese family planning officials. Local officials in certain regions charge parents exorbitant fines if they don’t have the proper marriage paperwork. When these parents are unable to pay the fines, their babies are taken from them and often put up for adoption by foreigners. http://tinyurl.com/3o2swsw
  • Pray for babies who have been illegally taken from their mothers and fathers and put up for adoption. Pray for their safety and health, and pray they’ll be reunited with their families of origin.
  • Pray for local family planning officials who treat babies as a source of revenue. Pray for a change of heart for those who profit in the trafficking of infants. Pray China’s national government will enforce its ban on confiscating children from parents who go over the strict birth quota.
  • Give thanks to God for the courage of those who risk their lives to speak out against this unjust practice.
Sierra Leone
  • Give thanks to God for a new government policy in Sierra Leone that eliminates fees for children and pregnant women. Thanks be to God that women are able to give birth in a clinic or hospital rather than at home where they run the risk of losing a baby or dying in childbirth.
  • Pray that health dangers for children and pregnant women will continue to decrease as the news of this policy spreads throughout Sierra Leone. Waiving medical fees has cut the mortality rate in half for pregnant women and decreased the malaria fatality rate for children by 85 percent.
  • Please pray that more doctors and medical personnel will be drawn to work in Sierra Leone. There are only four gynecologists and two pediatricians in this country of over five million people, a country still deeply scarred by a decade-long civil war. http://tinyurl.com/3eahk2h
Thailand (NightLight – bkk@nightlightinternational.com)
  • Thanks be to God for the Transformation Arts team that painted a mural and set up prayer stations on the rooftop of the NightLight outreach center. The vision of people coming from around the world to pray on behalf of those exploited in the sex industry and for those who confront the darkness in the red light area can now be fulfilled thanks to this team and to generous donors.
  • Pray that God will provide the resources to keep this ministry going as summer is a financially challenging season for jewelry sales. Thanks be to God for the large wholesale order that has kept the NightLight women busy this summer. Please pray for an increase in sales that will provide both work and resources.
  • Give God thanks for the large grant NightLight received that’s enabled this ministry to begin remodeling the building in the red light district. Pray God will provide the resources needed to complete all the work that’s needed in this facility. http://tinyurl.com/44s8sab
United States
  • Please keep 6-year-old Miranda held close in prayer as she goes through radiation treatments at Cook Children’s Medical Center in Texas for a brain stem tumor. Pray for healing and comfort for this little girl and for her family. Pray that her older siblings will feel the peace and grace of God during this frightening time. http://tinyurl.com/3otsxbc
  • Pray for God’s comforting presence to be with an 11-year-old boy who was abandoned by his father. When the boy woke up July 18, he discovered his father was gone but had left letters telling him what to do. Please pray this 11-year-old will find healing and peace in his new placement with another relative. Pray for the boy’s father, who is being extradited to Minnesota, and his mother, who hasn’t been involved in his life since he was 2 years old.
  • Please continue to pray for 1-year-old Marshall who has suffered more physical pain in his short life than many adults will in a lifetime. Give God thanks that Marshall survived surgery the day after his birth in order to correct a life threatening birth defect. http://tinyurl.com/4dh6qrv
  • And thanks be to God that Marshall was removed from an abusive situation earlier this year. Please pray that the physical abuse injuries Marshall suffered in the first three months of his life have healed fully. Marshall had fractured ribs and legs, a broken wrist and ankle, and skull fractures.
  • Pray that the real perpetrator will be determined and held accountable for abusing this baby boy.
