Prayer Requests for November 2, 2009

Brazil (ESTHERS Children – www.estherschildren.org)

  • Please keep in prayer the 16 girls (ages 4 to 15) currently in the ESTHERS Children substitute family home. Pray for finalization of registration documents in the court system for each of the girls in the home.
  • Thanks be to God for the great report cards each of the girls received recently. Pray that the girls continue to work hard on their studies and finish out the school year (in December) victoriously. And pray that God will open the door for the girls to attend a Christian school when the new school year begins in February.
  • Pray that God will encourage the substitute parents in the home and provide them with rest and many helping hands as they continue this challenging, difficult work.
  • Pray that God will provide the material resources needed to care for these girls properly. At present, all 16 girls, the substitute parents, and their two biological children live in a small three bedroom house. They also lack adequate transportation for this large family of 20.

Burma (Partners Relief and Development – http://partnersworld.org/usa/)

  • Give thanks to God for the work of Partners Relief and Development in Burma with displaced and orphaned ethnic hill tribe children. Pray for the staff and volunteers who serve in Partner’s children’s homes inside refugee camps and migrant communities along the Thai-Burma border.
  • Pray for health of all the children in these homes. Several of them are suffering from influenza and most have no medical insurance. Pray that children in the homes will have access to quality education and hope for a productive future. Several will graduate soon and don’t have Thai ID cards, which will keep them from getting jobs.

Kenya (CURE International – www.helpcurenow.org)

  • Pray for the disabled children receiving treatment at the CURE International Hospital in Kenya and for the medical staff and caregivers there. Please also pray for a 6-year-old boy named Moses.

Pakistan (Presbyterian Education Board – www.peb.edu.pk)

  • Please pray that God’s healing touch will bless Asia, a support staff member in one of the Presbyterian Education Board schools. Pray for her complete recovery from surgery for breast cancer last month. Pray for her three children and husband who are very concerned about her.

Peru (ESTHERS Children – www.estherschildren.org)

  • Pray in advance for an outreach team that will work with 124 children at risk in Peru from December 27, 2009 to January 4, 2010. Pray for God’s provision in all things and a strong team spirit.

United States

  • Pray that God would heal 6-year-old Marley who has a respiratory infection as well as a chronic lung condition.
  • Please pray that God will comfort 14-year-old Susan*, a refugee from Burma, as she attends school and struggles with language barriers that leave her feeling isolated. Pray for quick understanding on her part and compassion on the part of her schoolmates and teachers. Pray that God will hold her close during this difficult time. Pray for all refugee children struggling to adjust to life in a new place. *Name changed for confidentiality and/or protection.
  • Pray for 9-year-old Hannah who was recently expelled from school for violent and disruptive behavior. Pray that God can bring comfort and healing to this very angry little girl. Pray that she can receive proper treatment and quality care. Please pray for Hannah’s grandmother, with whom she lives, and Hannah’s mother, who has been in and out of prison on drug charges.
  • Please pray for homeless or disadvantaged children everywhere who are inadequately prepared for the winter season. Pray for children whose families are unable to afford cold weather clothing, coats, and boots.

Faces of Children

  • Please pray for heightened awareness about the plight of orphans and at-risk children as Orphan Sunday worship services and events take place around the United States (including Alaska and Hawaii), Canada, and Haiti this month. Give thanks to God for the involvement of so many churches and organizations in Orphan Sunday events.
