Afghanistan
- Please pray for the women and girls of Afghanistan who have no medical care throughout pregnancy or during childbirth. Eighty percent of women in Afghanistan give birth without skilled help and only a third receives any medical care during pregnancy. Afghanistan also has the world’s second highest death rate in women during pregnancy and childbirth—most of the causes of these deaths are preventable.
- Give thanks to God for the work of the Afghan Midwives Association to better educate more and more women as midwives. Pray that more midwives can be recruited and educated in order to provide health care to women in remote, mountainous regions that are isolated during winter.
- Pray that the deeply rooted cultural attitudes of women’s low status will be transformed. Pray that women’s lives will be deemed worthy of saving. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/07/28/health/

Please pray for an 8-year-old girl who was sexually assaulted by four boys, none of whom was older than 14. Pray for her Liberian immigrant parents, who said they felt shame and embarrassment at what happened to her. Pray for this little girl’s physical and emotional healing, especially in light of her parents’ betrayal. Pray for the boys who hurt her—that they may be healed from the effects of a culture of violence.
