Prayer Requests for December 29, 2008

Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, Sudan

  • Please pray for the children and people of Uganda, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and southern Sudan as the governments of the three countries have launched a joint military operation in the DRC against Joseph Kony and the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA). News reports indicate that Kony’s main camp was destroyed in the military attack last week.
  • Pray for the children and people of Northern Uganda as peace activists there are concerned that the joint military assault may provoke the LRA into attacking Northern Uganda again. They are also fearful that the military operation may disrupt the current peace talks.
  • Pray for children who have been forced to fight in the LRA and for girls who have been used as sex slaves. Pray for all of those who have been brutalized by this guerrilla organization, notorious for its mutilation of civilians and kidnapping of children. Thousands of people have been killed and 2 million have been displaced in the 22 year old war between the Ugandan government and the LRA.
  • Pray for an end to this brutality and for peace and security in these countries. The ongoing conflict has destabilized parts of south Sudan and parts of eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

Philippines

  • Give thanks to God that a Muslim separatist group has agreed to end the recruitment and use of children within their organization. The Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) is one of many rebel groups fighting the Philippine government on Mindanao island.
  • Pray that the MILF will follow through with their commitment to stop using children as soldiers, porters, guides or camp hands.
  • Pray that this rebel group will release all children in their ranks and allow them to return to civilian life.
  • Please pray for the rehabilitation and restoration of these children.
  • Pray for God’s healing presence as they deal with the aftereffects of the violent indoctrination and abuse they suffered in the MILF.
  • Please pray for a peaceful resolution to the complex situation on Mindanao, a southern Philippine island, on which several large scale conflicts are ongoing. An estimated 750,000 people have been displaced in six Muslim provinces on this island and nearly 300 people have been killed in four months of conflict with the MILF. A protracted guerrilla war between Maoist rebels and the Philippine government has also been going on since the late 1960s and killed an estimated 40,000 people.

  • Pray that Alex will be placed with a forever family. He is about to age out of the adoption program—please pray that God will bring loving, adoptive parents into this young man’s life.
  • Pray for all children in the foster care system in this country and around the world. Pray that God will open the hearts and homes of more fostering and adopting parents.

United States (Orphans First – http://www.orphansfirst.org/)

  • Please continue to pray for 10-year-old J., 8-year-old N., and 4-year-old A. The three siblings don’t understand that it’s unsafe for them to stay with their parents. Pray that God will comfort these children and provide a loving foster or permanent home where they may be placed together.
  • Pray for their current caregivers.
  • Pray that God will deliver their parents from issues that prevent them from being able to parent lovingly and effectively.
