Prayer Requests for the week of June 1, 2007

Sudan
· Please lift in prayer the children of Darfur who suffer dreadfully because of the continued campaign of violence against the people of Darfur. Up to 450,000 people have been killed and approximately 2.5 million have been displaced by four years of brutal attacks and violence by Arab militias backed by the Khartoum government. (Washington Post) Pray for peace and reconciliation in this troubled area.

Nepal
· Pray for the safety and well-being of the children of the Praise Home, as well as the children in ServLife’s orphanage and those in the Love Home in Nepal during this unstable time. The U.S. State Department has issued a warning regarding the violent activities of the Maoist insurgency in Nepal. Despite the signing of a comprehensive peace agreement by the Nepali government and Maoist insurgents, Maoists continue to engage in violence, extortion and abductions.

United States
· Please be in prayer for children who suffer from mental illness and emotional problems. Pray that God will bring comfort and healing to them and to their families. Pray that parents and caregivers who seek help for their children will find it. Pray for those caregivers who are confused by the many decisions they must make for their troubled children. Pray for those children who have given up hope that they will be able to lead a “normal” life.

· Give thanks to God for organizations like NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) and the work they do to help people living with serious mental illnesses and their families.

Thailand
· Pray for previously prostituted and trafficked women at NightLight in Bangkok who are learning new and safer ways to make a living through the jewelry-making part of this ministry.

· Pray that these women will continue to grow stronger and heal from the abuse they’ve suffered. Pray that they will recognize their worth as precious children of God and know they are loved for themselves.

· Pray for their children, who are themselves vulnerable to being trafficked and abused. Pray for safe centers and homes for these children. Pray that they will be able to attend school and break the cycle of poverty through education.

· Pray for the staff of NightLight as they face many crises on a daily basis while they try to run a business at the same time. Pray that God will bless them with wisdom and strength.

· Pray that Christian communities in Thailand will overcome the culturally-imposed belief about prostituted/trafficked women and girls. That they would recognize these women and girls’ worth as precious children of God and not treat them as soiled and spoiled possessions.
