Partners reports that information documents the suffering of Shan and Karen civilians living inside areas of active conflict. The worst one describes how more than 500 Shan orphans have been forcibly moved from a relatively safe area into a military base that is within mortar and attack range. The children are 3-12 years old and are the same children visited by Partners last fall.
Pray for a safe place for the children to live. Pray for food, shelter and medical care for the children. Pray that the children will not be burdened with fear. Pray that God will cover these children with protection and love and free them from oppression.In a recent report released by Human Rights Watch, the struggle of Burma's families continues to be a well documented struggle to survive. The following quote sums up the tone and content of this report:
"I will never forget our suffering at Ler Kaw village. When the soldiers shot my thirteen-year-old daughter, her intestines came out. Her father and I tried to save her, and escape. She was in agony, and screaming, but we couldn't do anything to ease her pain. She died after an hour. We haven't done anything against the government. All we had in our hands when their troops attacked was our paddy and harvesting tools. If the soldiers had called us, we would have gone to talk with them. They didn't have to shoot."

Displaced and impoverished victims of recent earthquakes and many still suffering from the tsunami on December 26 have no shelter, access to medical care or clean drinking water. The children are especially at risk.
Pray for shelter, medical care and clean water. Pray for the provision of loving caregivers for children who have lost their parents. Pray for protection from those who prey upon children.
