Prayer Concerns for the Week of October 6, 2014

Liberia, Guinea, Sierra Leone, West Africa
The largest Ebola outbreak ever has killed over 3,000 people in six West African countries. More than 1,800 of those deaths have occurred in Liberia. An estimated 6,000 people have been infected by the virus which has no known vaccine or cure. The World Health Organization (WHO) warns that more than 20,000 people could be infected by the epidemic as it continues its rapid spread. Support has been coming in from around the world in hopes of halting the advance of this epidemic. The United States is planning to build and supply 17 Ebola treatment centers across Liberia as well as train local medics. Britain is also building centers in Sierra Leone. However, the onset of the rainy season has complicated the delivery of supplies and the building of treatment centers in the region. The weather has also hindered efforts to isolate and treat those infected with the virus.  http://tinyurl.com/knmfyds  http://tinyurl.com/pdll47v
·         Please pray for children, young people, and adults who have contracted the Ebola virus. Pray they have access to treatment and don’t spread the virus to others.
·         Pray God will bring healing and hope to those who don’t have access to medical care.
·         Continue to keep in prayer the loved ones of those who’ve died in this epidemic. Pray for children who have been orphaned by this disease.
·         Thanks be to God so many countries are sending medical teams, support personnel, supplies, and funding to help the children and people of West Africa during this frightening time. Pray God will be with those going to regions where the virus is widespread. Pray for all healthcare and medical personnel working to halt this epidemic.
·         Pray road conditions will improve so trained medical personnel and much-needed supplies can reach those most in need. Pray those who are infected can be isolated and receive treatment for this disease.
·         Please pray this epidemic will be stopped soon.

Thailand
Air* was kidnapped when she was only 7 years old by a couple who enslaved and brutalized her until she managed to escape. This daughter of migrant workers from the Karen ethnic hill tribe in Burma was beaten daily, had boiling water thrown on her, and, as punishment for an attempted escape, had part of her ear lobe cut off. Air was held for five years at the couple’s home in central Thailand and forced to clean house. After her escape, Air was placed in a shelter where she is able to attend classes and her medical needs are met. She is also able to be in contact with her mother and three sisters. Her abusers were given bail and have since disappeared. http://tinyurl.com/nrucnta
·         Give thanks to God that Air managed to escape a life of slavery and is safe now. Pray for Air’s physical and emotional healing from the trauma of this abuse and the separation from her family. Please pray she will experience restoration and wholeness.
·         Pray for the couple who abducted Air…that they will be apprehended and face the consequences of their abuse. Pray God will be at work in their hearts.
·         Give God thanks for the teacher who recognized Air and helped her escape.
·         Pray for the people who knew about Air’s enslavement and abuse and did nothing to help her.
·         Please keep close in prayer all children who are forced into slavery. Pray for their safety and freedom.

Ukraine, Russia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Belarus, European Union
More than one million Ukrainians have been displaced by the conflict in Ukraine: an estimated 260,000 within Ukraine; 814,000 in Russia; and tens of thousands of others in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Belarus, and the European Union. Most of those displaced by earlier fighting within Ukraine have returned to areas retaken by Kiev’s army. However, recent fighting in eastern Ukraine between government troops and pro-Russian rebels threatens to end a three-week old ceasefire agreement. U.N. officials believe this crisis has the potential to destabilize the entire region unless it’s stopped soon. http://tinyurl.com/oqpw6sd  http://tinyurl.com/qx8dvok http://tinyurl.com/ohwu9dt
·         Please continue to keep close in prayer the children of Ukraine who have been affected by this conflict. Pray for those who’ve been displaced from their homes and communities by the fighting.
·         Pray for children who have lost a loved one in the fighting between government troops and rebels. Continue to pray for those who witnessed the violence and are experiencing trauma because of it.
·         Please pray the ceasefire agreement between the Ukraine government and pro-Russian rebels will hold. Pray for peace and reconciliation in this region.
