Prayer Concerns for the Week of December 9, 2013

Pakistan, United Kingdom
·         Give thanks to God for 16-year-old Malala Yousafzai and the courage she continues to display, even in the face of further threats from the Taliban. Despite the grave injury she received after being shot in the head last year by a Taliban gunman, Malala continues to promote education for girls and boys in Pakistan. Thanks be to God Malala received life-saving medical care in London and continues to grow stronger while living there with her family. http://tinyurl.com/l3qfe7e
·         Give God thanks for Malala’s Nobel Peace Prize nomination—she is the youngest person ever nominated for this honor. Please pray for Malala’s safety and protection from radical Islamists who feel threatened by this young woman’s outspokenness and the attention she has drawn to the problems women and children face in Pakistan.

Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey
·         Please continue to pray for the children of Syria as the civil war in their country rages. Pray for the estimated 5,000 people (1,000 families) who have been displaced by recent attacks on their villages in a mountainous region bordering Lebanon. Pray for these families who fled into neighboring Lebanon following assaults by the Syrian army. http://tinyurl.com/l4xrlbg
·         Pray God will provide for these displaced children and families who are without proper shelter to protect them from the cold. Pray for the residents of the Lebanese community into which these refugees have fled. There are already 30,000 Syrians who have sought refuge there and the community lacks the capacity to provide for more.
·         Please continue to keep in prayer the 2.2 million Syrians who have escaped the civil war and are struggling to provide for themselves and their families.
·         Pray for the governments and people of Lebanon, Jordan, and Turkey as they deal with the massive influx of Syrian refugees into their countries. Please pray all those who work with refugees will be filled with compassion and mercy for them.
·         Continue to pray for peace and reconciliation in Syria.

United Kingdom
·         Keep in prayer girls, most of them from South Asian communities, who are forced into early marriages in the United Kingdom. An estimated 400 school girls are forced into marriage every year in the UK, according to British TV network ITV. http://tinyurl.com/m5eggvs
·         Thanks be to God for the Muslim clerics in two-thirds of Britain’s 56 mosques who refused to perform child marriages and found the request offensive when asked by undercover reporters with ITV. Pray for imams who didn’t find the request repugnant and agreed to perform Islamic marriage ceremonies, even when the girls were unwilling. Pray God will be at work in the hearts of those who don’t have a problem with this form of child abuse and enslavement.

United States
·         Thanks be to God for the compassion of a generous community in providing a superhero wish come true for 5-year-old Miles who has battled leukemia for most of his short life. Miles’ Make-A-Wish to be Batkid came true recently in the San Francisco Bay area with at least 12,000 citizens on hand to cheer him on. Give God thanks that Miles’ cancer is in remission now. http://tinyurl.com/qybv9k2
·         Please keep close in prayer children who are prostituted by criminal gangs in what is becoming a more profitable method of making money for them than dealing in drugs or weapons. U.S. gangs are discovering that selling a child’s body over and over earns more money than selling drugs. Pray for children at great risk of being trafficked… runaways, those from abusive homes, those with addictions. http://tinyurl.com/lg4rntx
o   Thanks be to God for the recent arrests and prosecutions of several criminal gang leaders who profited from juvenile sex trafficking. Pray this trend of drug gangs trafficking children for commercial sexual exploitation purposes will stop.

Faces of Children
·         Please continue to pray that more churches and individuals will join with the ministry of Faces of Children in spreading awareness about children in crisis and inviting more people to pray for children at risk.
