Prayer Concerns for the week of November 19, 2012

Burma
·         Please keep in prayer the ethnic hill tribe people of Burma, especially those in areas rich in natural resources, who are displaced by fighting between the Burma Army and rebel groups over those precious resources and lands. Pray they will receive humanitarian assistance soon as many lack shelter or support.  http://tinyurl.com/by3buc9
·         Pray for ethnic hill tribe children and people who aren’t benefiting from government reforms enacted throughout much of Burma. Pray governments around the world won’t ignore the Burma government’s human rights abuses because they are afraid of harming the reform process.
·         Pray for children and families who are affected by fighting between ethnic rebels and the Burma Army along controversial oil and gas pipelines that run northeast from the coast in Rakhine (Arakan) State to China through central Burma and Shan State. http://tinyurl.com/ao2hfjm
o   Pray for families living along the pipeline route who have had their land confiscated and not been paid adequately, if at all.
o   Pray for children, youth, and adults who have been forced to labor on this pipeline route without receiving any payment.
o   Please keep in prayer the ethnic hill tribe girls and women in these areas as they are at greater risk for sexual abuse or exploitation with the influx of Chinese workers and Burma Army soldiers.

India
·         Give thanks to God for the work of the staff and volunteers of the Dalit Freedom Network (DFN) as they celebrate ten years serving Dalit children and their families throughout India. http://www.dalitnetwork.org/
·         Thanks be to God for the 107 schools DFN has established in that time and for the 25,000 students who are now learning in a safe and secure environment. Give God thanks these students of India’s lower castes have an opportunity, through education, to break the cycle of poverty in which they live.
·         And give praise to God for the skills training programs and self-help groups that have started at each DFN school and for the way in which these have brought dignity and sustainable labor opportunities to thousands of parents and adults in the school communities.
·         Thanks be to God for the DFN 4-Tier Healthcare Delivery System that provides healthcare to Dalit children and their families across India. Health records are being generated and maintained, feeding programs have been launched, child vaccinations are ongoing, and preventable diseases are actually being prevented.

United States
·         Pray God will bring comfort and peace to 16-year-old Ian who is dying of cancer. Pray Ian’s last months with his brother and mother will be filled with many joyful moments and meaningful conversations. And pray that his pain will be manageable in these last months.
o   Give thanks to God for members of Ian’s community, including area churches and his track team, for their support and generosity. They raised funds so Ian, his mother, brother, and grandparents could make a trip to Disney World recently.
o   Pray for God’s comforting arms to be around Ian’s mother and brother as they face another difficult loss in their family. Ian’s father died of brain cancer about five years ago.
·         Pray for the children and youth of Alaska’s rural communities who see no hope and choose to take their own lives. Please pray for communities of support and understanding around each child experiencing such hopelessness.

Zambia
·         Please keep in prayer children receiving treatment at the CURE International Hospital in Zambia. Pray God will meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of 15-year-old Stella. www.helpcurenow.org

Faces of Children
  • Please keep Faces of Children prayer partner Claudia Anderson in prayer as she deals with multiple health concerns and severe vertigo. Pray for God’s healing touch to be upon Claudia.
  • Continue to pray that more churches and individuals will join with the ministry of Faces of Children in spreading awareness about children in crisis and inviting more people to pray for children at risk.
