Prayer Requests for May 24, 2010

Afghanistan, United States

· Give God thanks for the efforts of Katie, a U.S. Army pilot in Afghanistan, and her roommate who have adopted a local girls’ school in Afghanistan. And thanks be to God for the work of a church community in North Dakota that is collecting school supplies to send to this school. Pray for the girls at this school—that they will be able to stay in school, receive an education, and be allowed to support their country’s recovery efforts.

Nepal

  • Give thanks to God that the general strike that choked daily life in Nepal for six days has ended. People were banned from taking any form of transportation. They weren’t allowed to go to work, school, or to shops to purchase food or medicine. Pray for those who were badly affected in this impoverished Himalayan nation. Pray for a peaceful, long-term settlement between former Maoist rebels that called this general strike and the government of Nepal. http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/SGE64702B.htm http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/N05128716.htm
  • Please pray for the staff, volunteers, and children of the Praise Home. Pray that God will continue to provide the resources needed to care for and raise the 17 children living at the Praise Home.
  • Pray for the work of ServLife ministry in Nepal as the leaders and volunteers of this ministry begin micro-enterprise initiatives that help the unemployed and under-employed escape poverty and hunger. http://www.servlife.org/

United States

· Pray for 14-month-old Mark who has been treated for infantile seizures, but during the process lost his vision. Pray for God’s healing touch upon this little boy and that his family will find the answers they are seeking. Pray that God will comfort them all.

· Give thanks to God that Ginger, a young mother dying from breast cancer, is doing a little better. Her cancer had spread to her brain and several months ago, she was unresponsive. Pray that God might give Ginger the strength to attend her sons’ upcoming baptisms. Give God thanks that these boys—ages 17, 12, and 7—will be baptized and that they are receiving such wonderful support from their church family and leaders as well as the social workers helping this family. Pray that God will bring comfort and peace to Ginger and her sons.

· Continue to pray for 19-year-old Andrew who is back in jail after stabbing another man. Andrew is developmentally delayed, was abused in foster care, suffers from Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (which can cause poor memory, attention deficits, impulsive behavior, and poor cause-effect reasoning, as well as secondary disabilities such as mental health problems and drug addiction), and now has been diagnosed as bi-polar. Pray that God will bring healing and peace into this young man’s life.

· Please pray for Andrew’s mother who struggles to help him. Give thanks to God that she has recently celebrated her 16thanniversary of sobriety and that her church has been so supportive of this recovering alcoholic.

· Pray that God’s comforting presence will be felt by Andrew’s 11-year-old brother Dallas who struggles to cope with all of this drama. Dallas receives treatment for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and has recently started seeing a psychiatrist.

· Pray that God will wrap arms of comfort around 18-year-old Megan and her younger brother Zac and sister Molly. Their father died last year while undergoing treatment for cancer. Please keep Megan in prayer as she graduates from high school and faces the first of many significant events without her father there. Pray that their mother will provide Megan, Zac, and Molly with the comfort they desperately need.

Zambia

· Please keep the children and people of Zambia held close in prayer as they prepare for the next general elections in 2011. Pray for the election of just leaders and for peaceful transitions in government.

· Pray for a crusade that will take place soon at Linda Iibuyu turnoff…that boys and girls will recognize Jesus’ great love for them and will dedicate their lives in service to him.

Faces of Children

  • Please keep Faces of Children intercessors Donna and Myrna held close in prayer as they recover from surgery and illnesses. Pray for God’s healing presence to be felt throughout this recovery time.
