Prayer Requests for June 23, 2008

Mexico

  • Please keep the family of Mary* in prayer as they mourn her death. This young teen lived at Albergue Casa Hogar, a ministry that helps and houses children of the street. While visiting her family in their home, Mary committed suicide. Pray also for her friends and the other children at Casa Hogar who are in shock and mourning this teenage girl. Pray that God will give the Casa Hogar caretakers wisdom in dealing with this tragic situation as they help the grieving children and family.
  • Please pray that God’s healing hand will be on 2-month-old Gabriella who has an infection in her stomach and may require surgery soon. Pray for her young parents and the rest of her family. Ask that God will guide them as they make difficult decisions about Gabriella’s medical care.

Thailand (Garden of Hope)

  • Pray for a 3-year-old child who has recently revealed to the staff of the Garden of Hope’s Children’s Drop-In Center about the sexual abuse the child has suffered by his/her father.
  • Please pray that the staff at the center is able to find a safe place for this child where he/she will receive the care and attention needed. Pray that God will provide these staff members wisdom and encouragement as they deal with recently revised procedures for reporting sexual abuse cases.
  • Pray for the social workers, doctors, police officers and legal personnel working on this case. Pray that God will give them the ability to discern the truth and the courage to do the right thing.
  • Pray for all of the children that come to the drop-in center, as many of them may also be victims of sexual abuse or neglect. Since the center’s opening in April, the staff is building trust with many of the children and their parents. Staff members learn more each day about the children and their tremendous needs and traumas.
  • Give thanks to God for the new worship services the center will offer children on Sunday mornings.

Thailand/Burma (Partners Relief and Development)

  • Please be in prayer for the seven children who have recently arrived in the Mae La refugee camp from the delta region of Burma. These children literally lost everything when Cyclone Nargis tore through that part of Burma. Partners Relief and Development staff reports that the children are staying in a hostel in the camp and that they are very sad and cry a lot. Pray for their emotional and physical healing. Pray that God will bring them peace.
  • Pray for the caregivers of this hostel and the staff at Partners as they reach out to these hurting and traumatized children. Pray that God will give them wisdom in helping children who have experienced so much.
  • Pray for all children who have been orphaned by this storm and are seeking shelter and safety. Pray for those who will be arriving at the refugee camps on the Thai/Burma border in the coming weeks and months.

United States

  • Pray for the mission team from First Presbyterian Church, Midland, Texas as they serve and minister in Uganda. A number of the participants are children and teenagers who fully share in the work of this mission team.
  • Also pray for the mission team from Westlake Hills Presbyterian Church in Austin, Texas on their trip to Zambia as they work with children there.
  • Pray for the youth mission teams from Tres Rios Presbytery and Grace Presbytery in Texas as they travel to and work in the Texas Gulf Coast area on homes damaged by Hurricane Rita.
  • Please pray for mission teams from all over the world as they go forth to serve God. Give thanks to God for those who are passionate about sharing the love of Jesus Christ with children and youth and adults around the world.
  • Pray that God will wrap comforting arms around 18-year-old Jacob and his mother as they mourn the sudden death of his father. Pray God will help Jacob deal with his feelings about this death in a healthy, constructive way.
  • Pray for those affected by the storms and flooding in the Midwest states. Pray for the Boy Scouts who were hurt when a tornado hit their summer camp in Iowa and for the families and friends of those killed by that twister.
